Anyone who's spent time in my studio knows I get a little excited about lymphatic flow.

Reduced swelling in your legs?
That's a happy dance.

Cheekbones turned supermodel?
I am high-fiving.

A beautiful client told me the other day she was able to walk around Casuarina without pain in her knees. It made me teary — I tried to hide it until after she was gone. She was tough enough to have lived with that pain for decades surely I can hold it together?

Lymphatic drainage is more than a feel-good, gentle massage. What makes it such a wonderful modality to practise is that it feels good AND gives incredible results to people experiencing the discomfort of swelling in different areas of the body.

Rarely is it 'one and done'. What has taken months or even years to accumulate needs gentle guidance to get moving — but getting that stagnated fluid to shift doesn't require deep digging or pain for you.

Your lymph capillaries and precollectors sit just below your skin, with the vessels running through your subcutaneous tissue. By loosening your superficial fascia (this sits above you muscles so no deep diving), we create space for the lymph fluid to start moving, and through sweeping motions we guide that flow toward the lymph nodes. Direction and pressure is everything in lymphatic drainage — like driving on the right side of the road, if you want to reach your destination you have to follow the right road rules.

OK, enough of that dodgy traffic analogy but, just wait until I write about your lymph vessels being full buses.

If you're feeling heavy-limbed and bloated, come and spend some time with me. Perhaps we can do a happy dance together.

Endorsed by me! I bought them online for myself, to use at home between massages and have found them so helpful I wanted to bring them to my clients.

These gloves make at-home lymphatic drainage simple and effective. Limited stock available – grab yours before they're gone!

I am hearing from many people with blocked up noses at the moment.

Our sinuses are air-filled cavities located around the nose, eyes, and forehead. They produce mucus that traps dust, bacteria, and other particles. Normally, this mucus drains smoothly through small openings into the nasal passages. The lymphatic system, a network of vessels and nodes, helps remove excess fluid, waste, and immune cells from tissues, including those in the face and sinuses.

When lymphatic drainage slows or becomes blocked, fluid and mucus can build up in the sinus tissues. This leads to inflammation, pressure, and congestion.

How the Sinuses and Lymphatic System Work Together

Your sinuses and lymphatic system work as a team to fight infection, balance fluid levels, and keep your breathing clear.

Signs of Poor Sinus Lymphatic Drainage

When lymphatic flow in the sinuses is sluggish, you may notice:

• Sinus congestion and difficulty breathing through the nose

• Facial puffiness around the eyes, cheeks or forehead

• Persistent headaches linked to sinus pressure

• Post-nasal drip causing throat irritation

• A reduced sense of smell or taste

• General fatigue as your body works harder to manage inflammation

If you're experiencing several of these symptoms, it's worth speaking with your GP.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Sinus Relief?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, non-invasive massage technique that stimulates the lymphatic system to encourage fluid and mucus movement in the face and neck.

By promoting lymphatic flow, MLD can help:

• Clear blocked sinuses and ease breathing

• Relieve sinus pressure and associated headaches

• Reduce facial swelling and puffiness

• Support immune function to help prevent recurring sinus infections

• Ease allergy-related symptoms like congestion and inflammation

Areas Treated During a Sinus Lymphatic Drainage Session

During a session, I will work over specific areas including:
Forehead and temples — relieving pressure in the frontal sinuses (sinus frontalis) and easing tension headaches

Around the eyes and under the orbital ridge — targeting the ethmoid sinuses (sinus ethmoidalis) to reduce puffiness and improve drainage

Sides of the nose and nasal bridge — encouraging drainage through the nasal passages and sphenoethmoidal recess, connecting to the sphenoid sinuses (sinus sphenoidalis)

Cheekbones and mid-face — addressing the maxillary sinuses (sinus maxillaris), the largest of the paranasal sinuses

Behind and in front of the ears — stimulating the pre- and post-auricular lymph nodes to drain the face and scalp

Under the jaw and along the chin — targeting the submandibular and submental lymph nodes to encourage fluid toward the neck

Down the sides and front of the neck — guiding lymph through the deep and superficial cervical lymph nodes toward the terminus (angulus venosus) where fluid re-enters circulation

Talk to your GP if you are concerned about the health of your sinuses.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that works with your body's natural systems to encourage the flow of lymph fluid through your body.
This soothing treatment can help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support your body's natural detoxification process — making it especially beneficial after surgery or if you're experiencing water retention.

Best of all, it's not just deliciously relaxing — it's backed by clinical research.

I am thrilled to share that I've just commenced the CANpractice course — an internationally recognised program in lymphatic drainage therapy that will deepen the specialised care I can offer here in Darwin.

CANpractice is grounded in the Casley-Smith method, a globally respected approach to manual lymphatic drainage developed here in Australia and recognised worldwide for its effectiveness in treating lymphatic conditions such as lipodema and lymphoedema.

The course covers advanced techniques for supporting clients living with a range of conditions, including lipedema and those navigating cancer care and recovery.

Darwin deserves access to the same quality of specialised care available in major cities, and completing this training is another step toward making that a reality for our community.

More updates to come as I progress through the course which culminates with the final week in Sydney in June 2026.

If you or someone you know is living with a lymphatic condition and wondering whether manual lymphatic drainage might help, feel free to reach out — I'd love to chat.

When we talk about lymphatic drainage massage, many people imagine a very light, slow massage. While gentle touch can feel relaxing, true lymphatic drainage massage is much more than that.

Lymphatic drainage massage is a structured, intentional technique.
It works with your body’s lymphatic system and follows the natural pathways of your lymph nodes (like the ones shown in this image).

This type of massage:
- Follows a specific sequence
- Targets key lymph node areas
- Encourages lymph fluid to move efficiently
- Supports detoxification, swelling reduction, and immune health

A massage can be light and slow… But without structure and knowledge of the lymph system, it isn’t lymphatic drainage.

That’s why proper training and technique matter. Your lymph system deserves more than guesswork.

If you have questions about whether lymphatic drainage massage is right for you, feel free to reach out!

Scar tissue is often neglected in the recovery journey. Neither surgeon nor physio discussed scar management with this total hip replacement, performed in Darwin. Four months post surgery the scar tissue was permanently throbbing. She was experiencing sore lower back and restricted movement. During initial assessment she shared she had no feeling either side of the scar or through the scar itself. Three sessions later throbbing has reduced, increased feeling in tissue around the scar and increased movement. Photo 1, post treatment three - tissue looking more alive and increased range of motion. Reduction in throbbing. Photo 2, pre-treatment.
