Anyone who's spent time in my studio knows I get a little excited about lymphatic flow.
Reduced swelling in your legs?
That's a happy dance.
Cheekbones turned supermodel?
I am high-fiving.
A beautiful client told me the other day she was able to walk around Casuarina without pain in her knees. It made me teary — I tried to hide it until after she was gone. She was tough enough to have lived with that pain for decades surely I can hold it together?
Lymphatic drainage is more than a feel-good, gentle massage. What makes it such a wonderful modality to practise is that it feels good AND gives incredible results to people experiencing the discomfort of swelling in different areas of the body.
Rarely is it 'one and done'. What has taken months or even years to accumulate needs gentle guidance to get moving — but getting that stagnated fluid to shift doesn't require deep digging or pain for you.
Your lymph capillaries and precollectors sit just below your skin, with the vessels running through your subcutaneous tissue. By loosening your superficial fascia (this sits above you muscles so no deep diving), we create space for the lymph fluid to start moving, and through sweeping motions we guide that flow toward the lymph nodes. Direction and pressure is everything in lymphatic drainage — like driving on the right side of the road, if you want to reach your destination you have to follow the right road rules.
OK, enough of that dodgy traffic analogy but, just wait until I write about your lymph vessels being full buses.
If you're feeling heavy-limbed and bloated, come and spend some time with me. Perhaps we can do a happy dance together.
