Beautiful piece of rhodochrosite set in hammered copper and hand forged surrounding sterling spherical ‘river rocks’ on a leather cord.

There are a lot of processes involved to create this pendant. It starts with the gorgeous stone and making a bezel to fit. I had to sand the stone flat at the base so the bezel fit well and it was snug.

From there the bezel is soldered onto the back plate. Once it’s secure it is pickled to remove fire scale (multiple times) and checked that it’s firmly attached and will not break.

The size of the bezel is checked. Bail is made and soldered then again it’s pickled.

The whole piece is hallmarked and hammered, then hand finished to remove sharp edges. Sanded and more sanding. Once it’s smooth the patina can be added and sanded again to leave the finish desired. The patina adds depth and gives it a leathery look.

It’s all polished (including the stone) and finished so it won’t discolour against your skin.
