Congratulations to Tim and Shane on achieving their next belt at tonight’s IAMA grading.

Since 2019, both Tim and Shane have been dedicated and valued contributors to our martial arts community, consistently supporting NAYILS in fostering a genuinely inclusive environment. Their ongoing commitment has played a significant role in strengthening connections between students, staff, and the broader community.

Over the years, they have trained alongside our students with consistency and respect, embracing the adaptive approaches required to meet individual functional capacities. Their willingness to learn, adapt, and lead by example reflects the core principles of person-centred practice and inclusion.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to our trainer Anton, who has worked alongside our students over many years. His ongoing commitment, guidance, and support have been instrumental in the development and success of the program and the individuals within it.

Inclusive All-Abilities Martial Arts (IAMA) was established by our students, who have developed and continue to refine their own style to suit their unique needs and abilities. The program was founded following Jason’s recognition of the importance of self-defence within our community, particularly after witnessing his son, Jiha, experience vulnerability. Through ongoing training, discipline, and support, Jiha progressed from requiring a wheelchair to achieving full independence in mobility. Today, he and his peers proudly share their knowledge and skills with others in a supportive and empowering environment.

IAMA—Inclusive All-Abilities Martial Arts—embodies the principle that everyone, regardless of ability, has the right to participate, learn, and succeed.

Tim and Shane’s achievements are not only a reflection of their personal dedication, but also of their meaningful contribution to a program that continues to build confidence, independence, and community inclusion for all involved.

The graduation ceremony on Saturday marked the beginning of the celebrations, starting with lunch. Unfortunately, the Gympie Speedway event was cancelled due to bad weather, prompting a visit to the cinema instead. The party then moved to the Maroochydore Surf Club. Well done to all the graduates; it's inspiring to see everyone's progress, which reflects not just the grading achievements but also the commitment to regular training and mutual support. This collective effort develops a strong mindset, encouraging each other to push forward without limits. Next Saturday, we'll look forward to catching up at the Noosa Festival of Surfing.

As February draws to a close, we welcome new students to our community, all of whom are striving to achieve new goals for 2026. With grading just a week away, students will soon have the opportunity to showcase their hard work and dedication to training and fitness. Our community is built not only on hard work but also on camaraderie, with regular social events like Wednesday night dinners and Friday bowling trips, as well as birthday celebrations. The March program is now available, and grading is next week. We congratulate students on signing up for the 96 km event in March, which supports the mental health of Return Service Personnel. Wishing you a great weekend.
