Setting the record straight: Boxing years 2013-2015
Boxrec doesn't have my record right and it's always given me the sh*ts. So this is my own little walk down memory lane to celebrate my boxing Journey :)
I started fighting with some exo's, one with Elli Bliss and another in Caboolture. I fought and won twice before I turned up to golden gloves in 2013 with a nose that needed cauterizing and I was sitting waaaaay too low in calories, also accidentally took a Phenergan on the way to weigh in thinking it was a Panadol (do not recommend, was quite too relaxed for a fight 🤣) second jab my nose exploded. It was a blood bath - I wish I had the picture for you.
I cant remember the next fight but I didn't win 🤷 After that we went back to golden gloves 2014 and got that one, then a loss against a local Noosa girl later that year. I headed for state titles and won my first fight in 10 seconds, slipped the jab and came over with a right hand. Hurt her nose and she didn't want to continue so i progressed to the next day. Then I fought Skye Nicholson (look her up). My 9th fight her 60th.
Oh lawd what a day 🤣 I was just trying to stay alive in there - I'd had all this advice like 'just put pressure on her' so that was what i was trying to do. Truth is Skye was then and still is now an absolute master of timing. Hers were my first taste of 'while light' punches - when they land you see a little flash. Anyway - so i struggle my way through three rounds and then coach goes to take my headgear off but the ref comes over and says no you still have one round to go. Back then girls did 4x2 min rounds. So yeah back in i went. Skye won.
From there I fought at the wide bay titles, got a win there, then copped a loss at another tournament. Another local tournament got the win then off to golden gloves when i fought Claudine and lost. It was one of those days I just couldn't get myself together - she kept breaking my rythym and i couldn't settle in.
Still at this point in boxing I wasn't settled in my style, I didn't have a great way of making and sustaining weight, I hadn't found coaches that 'got' me. I was late to start and not super talented. But I loved it.
