Let’s talk western saddles
As a therapist and a western enthusiast I get asked all the time what saddle I use especially on my big shoulder round tum tum Johnny oh and Tilly for that matter !!
I got my saddle from Texas it’s a no named saddle and it’s been the absolute best saddle I’ve ever owned.
The things I want to point out to people are these
Horses with bad saddle fit have a destinct look about them and certain behaviour problems
If you horse has big scapulars or look like they have lumps on there scapula then your saddle doesn’t fit
If your horse drops to its knees or pulls back your saddle doesn’t fit or your girth is not acceptable
If your horse is reluctant to move forward either on the ground or when you pop in the saddle then your saddle doesn’t fit!

I have had Johnny for 10 yrs he has gone to certain ppl through his breaking phase and was returned to me as a cranky 3-4yo one reason was his sadddle they used didn’t fit
Sore back and white marks don’t lie !

Since Johnny has only been ridden in my saddle by me he doesn’t suffer with any of the above symptoms / injuries why because his saddle fits !!

I’m not a saddle fitter and don’t claim to be but I certainly know what a horses back should look like and what it shouldn’t
Plus I very rarely treat my horses back and only for maintenance or to treat them!!
