Happy New Year!
It is so so so good to see all of my Pilates Beauties again! The start of a new year is a lovely fresh chance to open up to the unknown, the unexpected. There may be a better plan out there than the one we think if we open up with curiosity! Accepting what is, is a good place to start our Pilates journey without resistance.
From there, feeling that every movement starts from our breath, our inner connections and presence for overall mind-body-spirit awareness. Deep listening to our bodies’ whispered messages which inform us what is working well and what is not. Less expectations, more curiosity.
The following principles of Pilates hold true for every movement from the gentle to the dynamic…Breathing, concentration, control, centring, precision and flow….
Breathing is life itself! It is used to connect mind, body and spirit, create body awareness, to release tension, energise, assist, challenge and nourish the body at every level.
Centring is the inner connectedness of the body. All movements initiate from the centre of the body, that inner stability and that inner presence.
Concentration is the presence in all movements to make them more effective and pure, lessening inessential effort.
Control is the ability to maintain direction over the mind and body to create the movement
Precision is to work with alignment, care and efficient movement.
Flow is to move smoothly with flowing energy and continuous control to create light, graceful movements that feel beautiful in the body, mind and spirit.
Being present in our body, aware of our body in movement, connected to our breath and in-tune with our body sensations is an essential part of healthy movement.
This year I am celebrating 27 years teaching experience! I am immensely grateful for each and every one of you. I thank you for trusting me and for your presence each week. Thank-you for your smiles, friendship and dedication.
