South Narrabeen SLSC

South Narrabeen SLSC Keeping the beach safe since 1922 Our primary role is to save lives on the beach. Surf Life Saving is much more than just saving lives on the beach.

Volunteer Lifesavers have been iconic sight on Australian beaches for more than a century, are recognised world-wide and provide a unique community service. Surf lifesavers are easily recognised by the famous red and yellow cap, and their bright red and yellow uniforms. A key priority for us is reaching out to all Australians through Community Education. We aim to teach all Australians how to keep themselves and their families safe at the beach. We do this through:
* Specifically targeted campaigns eg. rockfishing, rip currents, multi-lingual surf safety. See more on beach safety
* School education programs eg. Beach to Bush
Surf Ed programs delivered by our Branches and licensed providers
* Community courses eg. First Aid, CPR, Junior

Shoulder to shoulder, we stand together.

On Saturday 20 December at 9:00am, South Narrabeen SLSC members and our community came together for three minutes of silent reflection, paying our respects to all those impacted by the tragic events at Bondi last Sunday.

We stand against hate and prejudice.
We stand for community, compassion and inclusion.

Our thoughts are with the Bondi community and everyone affected. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Shoulder to Shoulder โ€“ Saturday 20 December, 9am

South Narrabeen SLSC invites all patrolling members and members of the community to join us at 9am tomorrow (please assemble by 8:45am), Saturday 20 December, to stand Shoulder to Shoulder.

Bondi Surf Bathersโ€™ Life Saving Club and North Bondi SLSC have invited lifesavers across Australia to come together at the start of patrols to observe three minutes of silence as we pay our respects.

We ask that participants wear their patrol uniforms (or club colours) and stand shoulder to shoulder in a line along the shore, facing the sea, to observe a three-minute silence.

We will stand shoulder to shoulder to show we are a united group of surf lifesavers and lifeguards across the country, and to show our support for our fellow lifesavers while recognising the tragedy that has unfolded at Bondi.

There will be no speechesโ€”just silenceโ€”as we pay respect to those who lost their lives, those who risked their lives, those who worked tirelessly to save lives, and all of us who will never forget.

Saturday 20 December
Silent reflection on the waterโ€™s edge

Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club and North Bondi SLSC invite lifesavers across Australia to come together at the start of their patrols on Saturday to observe 3 minutes of silence to pay our respects. They would like to encourage you to wear your patrol uniforms, stand shoulder to shoulder in a line along the shore facing the sea, and observe a 3-minute silence before your patrol commences.

We stand shoulder to shoulder to show we are a united group of surf lifesavers and lifeguards across the country.

We encourage you to do this as a show of support for fellow lifesavers and recognition of the tragedy that has unfolded at Bondi while also reflecting on our respect and compassion for the Jewish community targeted by this attack.

We ask that there are no speeches, just silence, as we pay respects to those who lost their lives, those who risked their lives, those who worked so hard to save lives, and all of us who will never forget.

The Surf Life Saving community is in shock and is deeply saddened after yesterdayโ€™s horrific shooting attack at Bondi Beach.

Not surprisingly, many volunteer lifesavers acted immediately to respond, providing first aid including CPR, to injured victims, shepherding people to safety inside both the Bondi and North Bondi Surf Life Saving Clubs while the attack was still underway and giving assistance to emergency services.

The Police have described the shooting as a terrorist attack. This is an incomprehensible tragedy, right on the doorstep of our clubs and directly affecting our own members and volunteers.

We can confirm that no lifesavers were physically injured in the attack. However, we recognise that traumatic events of this magnitude can have a far reaching emotional impact.

Surf Life Saving NSW is supporting the clubs and those involved with immediate and extensive counselling and outreach services and has extended that support to all members of Bondi and North Bondi SLSCs.

Our heartfelt condolences are with the families and the broader community who have lost loved ones or friends.

We cannot thank our lifesavers enough for selflessly stepping forward during such a serious and tragic situation. The courage and professionalism of those involved make us all proud to be lifesavers.

Our surf clubs have, and should always be, places of safe haven and yesterdayโ€™s tragedy will no doubt galvanise our members to come together, support each other and their community in solidarity against terror and fear.
