Let’s rewind to 2016. Rach had just moved to Dubbo for the first time, and Ben had just moved back after a few years of living away. The funny thing is, the year before they’d both been living in Tamworth — practically around the corner from each other — and somehow never met.
Sporty and keen to make friends in her new town, Rach was given the contact details for Ben’s cousin Ash, who had a spare spot in her touch footy team. That team just happened to include Ben’s sister Steph and a few other relatives — so it was very much a family affair on the field, and potentially a little daunting for the new girl to join in on.
To no one’s surprise it didn’t take long for Rach to catch Ben’s eye. Actually talking to her, however, was another story. Each week, as soon as the game finished, Rach would sprint off declaring it was late and she had to get to bed making it a bit of a struggle for Ben to strike up a conversation.
Eventually though, she did stay long enough for a quick chat, and Ben waisted no time mentioning he had a border collie named Shep who loved walks. That was it — game over.
After a few long walks along the river, with Shep leading the way, Rach fell in love… first with Shep the dog, and then, fortunately, with Ben too.
Fast forward nine years, a home, another border collie, a baby, and a proposal later — Ben and Rach got married on a very fun Friday in November on the lush lawns of
I was told that Ben’s cricket team had a very thoughtfully scheduled general bye the next day which was super convenient for this community sport champ and his sport mad mates to continue the celebrations on late into the night. 😜🥂
Thanks for having me Rach & Ben (& Ruby). 💕
