The Prostate Clinic

The Prostate Clinic The Prostate Clinic is Perth’s first dedicated clinic to the management of prostate disease and me

The Prostate Clinic is designed to deliver multidisciplinary care from diagnosis to discharge, to support men through their prostate cancer journey. Prostate cancer is the most common non skin cancer diagnosed in men, but remains a confusing and often mistreated disease. Our focus allows us to manage this complex problem in the best possible way. From accurate diagnosis with prostate MRI and targeted biopsy, through to thorough explanation of your diagnosis with the support of Hollywood Hospital’s Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse, we are able to give you clear advice in a way you will understand. As a clinic dedicated to prostate cancer we have built extensive experience in multiple treatment options, allowing us to recommend the treatment that is right for you and your aims. High surgical volumes have been critical to ensure the best surgical care with minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic DaVinci Xi surgery. At the Prostate Clinic we look at you as a whole person to ensure the best possible outcomes, with routine pre surgical ‘prehabilitation’ to maximise your success and minimise complications. After surgery we offer on site sexual health services to help recover er****ons and have access to continence physiotherapy as needed, along with the ongoing support of our Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse. We enjoy close relationships with both radiation and medical oncologists to facilitate multidisciplinary care as needed. Your health after cancer is also important with many men with prostate cancer having multiple medical problems, as cancer is often just one sign of a much larger problem. At The Prostate Clinic we believe that a cancer diagnosis is an opportunity to look more closely at your health. Through our partner clinic, Ionic Health, we are able to offer comprehensive medical risk assessment and interventions through our doctor, dieticians, exercise physiologists and psychologists. Many men who are concerned about cancer have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), a non cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. Medical and surgical treatments are available including the greenlight laser therapy.

Since 2012, when the US preventative task force changed guidance to stop testing there has been a steady increase in presentation with mets to bones and nodes and an increase in the number of higher grade cancers. Advice has changed back and rates are declining.
PSA testing changes the disease. See draft Australian guidelines that will prevent this. Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia

Can you prevent prostate cancer? This study looks at how to reduce prostate cancer impact. This cancer is so common, 1 in 5 men in Australia will face a diagnosis. At this time the only reliable way to reduce impact is early detection by PSA / MRI. Early detection is more important in prostate cancer than many others - there is no space around the prostate to give us a safety margin to achieve cure. Er****on nerves are invaded early in aggressive disease. Find it early = secondary prevention.

As we head into COVID for the first time here in WA, we can learn the lessons from elsewhere. Whilst Omicron is likely to be milder than previous viruses, the effect of skipping routine check ups might not be. Cancer is a game against time. Early diagnosis, especially in prostate cancer is what determines cancer control and retaining function. Keep calm and carry on with your health checks.

Oncologists are grappling with predicting—and mitigating—the effects of the pandemic.

COVID increases er****on problems. Healthy blood vessels means healthy heart, kidneys, brain and er****ons. Follow these tips to stay healthy, avoid COVID and keep er****ons.

All men are at risk of prostate cancer with 1 in 5 Australian men diagnosed. To minimise the impact of prostate cancer, we need to find them early. There are no symptoms, but a simple blood test has been shown to significantly reduce the impact of the disease. Talk to your doctor about a PSA test. Erectile dysfunction is a common side effect to prostate cancer treatment. This is because the nerves and blood vessels that control the physical aspect of an er****on are incredibly delicate and any trauma to the area can result in changes. However, within one year nearly all men with intact nerves will see a substantial improvement.

There are many different treatment options to erectile dysfunction that we can discuss with you, including oral medications, injectable medication, vacuum constriction devices and pe**le implants.

Come see us to discuss more about your options and what we can do for you!
