Today is the last day of winter! ❄️

We know its still a little chilly 🥶 but as the winter months come to an end and the days start getting warmer, our toes will start to come out when we switch to open-toed shoes 🩴 or even going barefoot 🦶 (we know, its hard to imagine right now)!

Get your feet ready for the warmer 🌞 months by getting them checked out by our Podiatrist. Our Podiatrist can assess your feet and toe nails to make sure they are in good condition and provide you with tips on how to care for your feet as they're exposed to hotter weather 🥵 in the coming months.

When moisturising 💧 your feet, using a urea-based cream is the key to getting rid of that dry skin and helping with your cracked heels! 🙌

Urea is a keratolytic. This means it breaks down the outer layer of the skin, helping it to soften and retain moisture. 💦

We sell Walker's Urea 25 for $15 per 100g tube and only $22 per 500ml pump bottle. Pop into our clinic to purchase yours today. 🤩

Alternatively, if you're already using urea cream but still need help with your dry and/or cracked feet, book an appointment with our Podiatrist for help! Call ☎️ (08) 6269 2038

Do you have a daily foot routine? 🤔 Here's one to keep your feet and your Podiatrist happy! 🤩

1. Wash your feet, especially between the toes
2. Dry your feet thoroughly, especially between the toes, and keep them dry throughout the day
3. Moisturise with a urea-based cream
4. Keep your nails trimmed, but not too short, by cutting straight across to prevent ingrown toe nails
5. If you discover pain or see something unusual, don't wait! Book an appointment with your Podiatrist immediately.

🦶 Diabetic Feet 🦶

The moisture💧, cold temperatures ❄ and dry air 🌬 of winter can lead to decreased circulation in our feet which, for those with diabetes, can lead to diabetic foot ulcers.

Look after your diabetic feet with these tips:

☝️ Choose shoes that will provide protection against the cold and wet weather, as well as padding and enough room as to not restrict blood flow.

✌️ Keep your feet dry to prevent the build up of bacteria. Change wet socks immediately, dry between the toes and keep an eye out for pale areas of skin.

👌 Be careful not to burn your feet. Try not to heat your feet up using electric blankets, heaters or pads and always check water temperature with your hands before bathing. This is because any nerve damage in your feet can make it hard to determine when your feet are getting too hot.

People with diabetes should be checking their feet daily as a general rule of thumb. If you notice anything amiss, or are simply in need of a diabetic check, book an appointment to see our Podiatrist on ☎ (08) 6269 2038.

Morton's Neuroma

Morton's neuroma is an entrapped nerve between the toes 🦶, most commonly the 3rd and 4th, which becomes inflamed due to constant irritation. This sends a dull burning 🔥 or sharp stinging ⚡️ pain towards the toes and pain under the ball of the foot.

One of the causes of Morton's neuroma is tight-fitting footwear 🥾, making it more common to develop in winter ❄️ and more painful to experience for those already suffering as we wear more enclosed shoes during the colder weather.

Our Podiatrists 👨‍⚕️ can provide a range of treatment and advice for those suffering from Morton's neuroma, including footwear advice, orthotic therapy, foot mobilisation and dry needling. If you're suffering this winter, let us help you. 🙌Book an appointment on ☎️ (08) 6269 2038

💥 Blisters 💥

Blisters are pockets of fluid that develop due to the overstretching of the skin. Heat, moisture and friction increase the chances of getting blisters which makes them more common in winter ❄️ time as we wear more enclosed shoes.

The best way to prevent blisters is to make sure you are wearing properly fitted shoes 🥾 and socks 🧦. However, if the blister is causing you a lot of pain and discomfort, or if it bursts, our Podiatrists can help by draining the fluid from the blister and relieving the pressure from the area by applying padding.

If you need footwear advice or treatment for a blister, don't suffer in silence! Book an appointment to get back to painless feet on ☎️ (08) 6269 2038.

🥶 Chilblains 🥶

Chilblains are red, blue or purple areas of skin that develop due to exposure to cold weather 🥶 and poor circulation 🩸. They are more common on the fingers and toes 🦶 due to the small blood vessels in these areas, as well as being more common in those with already-present circulation issues.

Chilblains can be prevented by keeping your feet warm and dry in your shoes 🥾 and socks 🧦, as well as keeping active 🚶 to keep blood flowing. Try to avoid going from hot temperatures ☀️ to cold temperatures ❄️ suddenly as this will only make the condition worse.

If you do have chilblains and they turn into sores, it is important to see a Podiatrist 👨‍⚕️ to get them cleaned and dressed. If this is you, or if you need advice on the prevention our chilblainds, our Podiatrists can help. Book an appointment on ☎️ (08) 6269 2038
