"Whose Voice Are You Listening To When You Read?"

We are encouraged to live a life of continued learning -

๐ŸŽง podcasts while we walk
๐Ÿš— audio books while we drive
๐Ÿš† content while we commute

Efficient? Yes, absolutely
But always effective? Not necessarily.

Whilst listening absolutely has its place, there is something powerful that happens when we slow down and read and turn the pages of a paper book.

When we read, the brain creates our own inner voice. It links visual input to speech areas, enhancing the neural pathways making them more flexible than listening alone and strengthening networks for language, memory, attention and imagination.Who
We set the pace.
We pause.
We reflect.
We truely absorb.

This type of reading supports:
โœจ focus and mental clarity
โœจ emotional regulation and calm
โœจ memory and deeper understanding
โœจ reduced stress and nervous system balance

Perhaps that is why we naturally encourage our children to read books. It helps develop imagination, patience, empathy and confidence in their own thinking.

These benefits don't disappear as we grow older. In fact, they become even more important for our wellbeing, resilence and sense of self.

Audiobooks and podcasts are wonderful tools and certainly have their place. But when life feels busy, noisy or overwhelming, reading can be a gentle form of self-care - a moment to reconnect with your self.
