As Support Coordinators we see the real need of our role for NDIS participants. Without us, who will advocate and support participants to the extent we do? Who will ensure they can understand and navigate a truly challenging and inaccessible system?
We fear vulnerable people will fall through the cracks. We do not stand for this! We are proud to advocate and support the individuals who trust us to be a part of our journey and we fear to think what things look like without accessibility to this support and advocacy.

Good providers are the backbone of the NDIS, don’t let the system break them.
Support Coordinators are walking away. Not because they want to, but because the funding just doesn’t stack up anymore. When that happens, people with disability are left without the help they rely on!

The NDIA hasn’t lifted hourly rates for Support Coordination in 7 years.

Providers can’t survive like this, and without Support Coordinators, people with complex needs will be left without support. If that happens, the whole NDIS risks collapse.

This petition calls on the House to:

Independently scrutinise the data around Support Coordination
Raise hourly rates so providers remain viable
Recognise Support Coordinators as critical to the NDIS
Ensure sustainable funding so we can keep delivering high-quality care
We’ve got until 24 September. Every signature counts.

What makes a good psychosocial recovery coach?

A true connection and understanding of the person as an individual.
No one is a number and we pride ourselves on ensuring we know you and your goals.
A psychosocial recovery coach should be a strong listener, be understanding and have qualifications or experience in mental health.
They should have a strong network of providers who understand mental health and understand which of these would be best suited to an individual.
They gently guide, and stand alongside you and ensure you can make an informed decision into suitable supports, ensuring the choice is entirely yours.
They are there for any changes, they are adaptable and calm ensuring periods of change go as smoothly as possible.
They are there to support you, ensure you understand how to use your plan and to be on your team, ensuring you can work on reaching your goals in the smoothest possible way.

What is the difference between psychosocial recovery coaching and support coordination?
Some say psychosocial recovery coaching is about mental health 'recovery'.
But many with mental health diagnoses aren't on a road to 'recovery,' they take each day as it comes. 'Recovery' isn't always the end goal or a realistic possibility.
We see psychosocial recovery coaching as a specialisation in mental health support.
A psychosocial recovery coach has qualifications, experience and understanding of mental health. They are trauma-informed and person-centred. They encourage and hold space for you and have the connections to ensure your supports are suitable to mental health. They are sensitive to your needs and the changes that may arise.

A support coordinator's role is in encouraging understanding of the NDIS, a person's plan and assists in the connection of supports appropriate to the individual. They are adaptable, connected and understanding.

Both a psychosocial recovery coach and a support coordinator should understand you, your needs and your goals. They should be able to engage appropriate services relative to your needs.

How do you choose the right supports?
Ask yourself these questions:
What are your goals?
Does the provider align with your values, needs and goals?
Does the provider have the relevant qualifications or skills to provide appropriate support?
Are they communicative? Flexible? Understanding?

Your support coordinator should be able to guide you in finding providers that align with your needs.

Working together to determine your goals and how to reach these should help in finding the right people to be on your team.
Your coordinator should be informed and connected and have options suited to you.
Options they know are reliable. It’s your journey and your decisions, your coordinator is there to support you and guide you along the way.
There’s nothing wrong with reevaluating supports over time. Are things still working? Are you still feeling confident in the team around you?
You’re never stuck. Your coordinator should be adaptable and understanding to changes and help you navigate these with ease.

What makes a good support coordinator?
When looking for a COS there's a lot to consider.

We pride ourselves on the connection we have between each individual participant and their COS.
We believe you will find the best outcomes if your coordinator truly understands you as an individual and your own individual needs.
A coordinator is there to listen and understand, using their own skills and networks to find the best providers to suit you, while allowing you full choice and control over decisions.
A coordinator is there to take the pressure off navigating the system, to ensure funds are allocated appropriately ensuring you can access the supports you need without unnecessary stress.
A COS should have the skills to guide you in understanding and implementing your plan, navigating any issues that arise. They work alongside you to ensure everything is in place to ensure you can build capacity and reach your chosen goals.
