IMPORTANT: I DO NOT OFFER OR CLAIM TO FACILITATE PAST LIFE REGRESSIONS.
That said, I was invited onto a podcast of a client which was something fun and a little different. She had some interesting experiences with me in the treatment room while having acupunture.
One of the nicest things about this work is the evolution of clients and their lives over the years. The client-practitioner relationship is special.
We chat a lot about more esoteric matters, as well as reproductive health including fertility and PCOS.
Please note, most acupunture clients do not have the experience my client Ashleigh/ The Psychic Time Traveller had.
But, my work has evolved to include more than my Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupunture training, so I will be opening up differnet non-acupunture appointment offerings in 2025 under a different business name to separate it from my professional services as a Registered Acupuncturist, focusing more on the shamanic type energy work that I do with with some of my acupunture clients - which is not part of my Traditional Chinese Medicine / Acupunture training for the record!
That said, the real Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as classical acupunture has deeply spritual and shamanic roots. Even in my modern university level training, the shen(spirit-mind-emotional aspect of our being) is part of our physiology and therfore part of a pathophysiologic presentation and considered important in the diagnosis and prescription. We are whole beings, and true medicine is wholistic.............................................................................................................

Acupuncture aims to rebalance qi or energy in the body by the insertion of very thin needles through your skin to stimulate strategic points, aka "meridian points" on your body.☯

The needles vary in size but can be as small as 0.12 mm wide, which is as thin as human hair. The largest acupuncture needle is the 27 gauge, which is 0.4 mm wide. The needle is solid rather than hollow since it does not transfer anything in or out of the body.

Acupuncturists insert needles at various depths ranging from a fraction of an inch to several inches, which depends on where the point is located in the body.

🌱Welcome SPRING! Season of the WOOD ELEMENT, and the LIVER and GALLBLADDER channel-organ system.🌱
🌱SPROUTING OUR SEEDS OF POTENTIAL:
Spring and the wood element is all about growth, expansion and movement, and the direction of the liver qi (‘qi’ = energy/essence/quality/function/motive force/catalyst) and the wood element is upward and outward, just like a tree’s branches. As in nature, now is the time for new growth and expansion.

🌱
We are a microcosm, inextricably linked to the macrocosm, as such affected by the seasons and other external environmental factors.

🌻
The Wood element has the qi that drives our hopes, visions, decisions and plans for the future, it also gives us courage. So, if you’re feeling the urge branch out, to set plans into motion, or try new things, you’re in tune with the seasonal energy!

🌻
Maybe you’re feeling frustrated, stuck, down, lacking hope or not able plan and see a desired future for yourself… it may be time to investigate what or who is stunting your growth, fencing you in or blocking the free-flow of qi (including self-limitations or inherited patterning). Or maybe your liver is depleted or overloaded by poor nutritional or lifestyle choices, and this is blocking your momentum…

🌲
Flexibility and rigidity are attributed to the wood element. Being able to go with the flow without being to overly yielding, but still holding your own (resilience). Having plans and a clear vision, without being so rigid that anger, frustration or upset can set in when plans need to change (inflexibility), are qualities to aim for in healthy wood element. Just like a tree that sways with the wind, rather lose a rigid branch or be torn out by the roots rather than adapt.

🌲
The wood element nourishes our ligaments and tendons, which reflect this balance of flexibility and strength.

💫
This is where TCM and acupuncture can help to balance or nourish your wood element, by accessing points on your liver or gallbladder channels, such as Liver 14 (Qi Men) aka ‘gate of hope’, Liver 3 (Tai Chong) aka, ‘great rushing forward’, or Gallbladder 37 (Guang Ming) aka ‘clear illumination'.

JUST ADD HOT WATER!
🛁🎶 Self-care needn’t be expensive. Looking after your health isn’t just about getting enough protein, eating your veggies and getting enough movement into your day. Of course that is really important, so is looking after your soul! 😌
✨Your shen (spirit/soul) needs nourishment too, for physical and psychological wellbeing.✨
🪷Are you adding some soul-food into your daily or weekly schedule? If not, that’s my recommendation for you this week - what does it for your shen-spirit? Put it on your to-do list. Sometimes its just stopping and relaxing, allowing yourself to ‘be’ rather than ‘do’. ‘Doing’ uses up a lot of our resources, whilst ‘being’ settles and replenishes the yin, to balance all the yang. Sometimes stopping trying is just what is needed to succeed, take a break from trying and see if you get a problem solved or a worry eased. 🪷Taking time out with a good book📖📚, painting, gardening 🪴, a quiet catch up with a kindred spirit, a guided meditation… Don’t underestimate the value of ‘down-time’, it replenishes your qi/energy for the up times.
🪷For me, its music, a walk or swim in nature, or a massage.
🪷Winter, ruled by the water element, 🫧💧🌊and connected to the kidney-adrenals, is a great time to make some extra slow, quiet, inward time. 🌧Nature is encouraging us to go inward and renew in this most Yin time of year, to replenish, reflect and re-energise for the growth spurt of the expansive Wood Element in Spring 🪴and the creative, passionate, joyful expression of our hearts, the fire element in Summer☀️🔥☀️ Thanks to my amazing massage therapist for reminding me I needed to self-care body and shen a bit more this week.🙏

In 2021, another study confirmed that induction is associated with more interventions and adverse outcomes.

"Worryingly, although the induction rate had tripled in some groups in the 16 years spanned by the study, Dahlen et al (2021) found that there had been no reduction in stillbirth.

This is of huge concern, as possible reduction in the chance of stillbirth is the reason often given to support a recommendation of induction, especially when there are no medical indications for induction."

That's a quote from my book, In Your Own Time: how western medicine controls the start of labour and why this needs to stop.

I shared the finding of a group of researchers who, "compared intrapartum interventions and outcomes for mothers, neonates and children up to 16 years, for induction of labour (IOL) versus spontaneous labour onset in uncomplicated term pregnancies with live births." (Dahlen et al 2021).

I discussed this research in a blog post, which you can see at https://www.sarawickham.com/research-updates/induction-adverse-outcomes/ as well as in my book.

As always, it's important to remember that there are pros and cons to everything.

If there are genuine medical reasons for induction, then the benefits can outweigh the risks and possible downsides.

Induction of labour is absolutely the right decision for some women and families, regardless of these risks.

But many people think it is being offered too often at the moment, and that women and families aren't being given enough information about the downsides.

The key is in getting informed, and figuring out what's right for you.
