Thanks Above and Beyond Early Education Centre for having Grace come in and so some preschool screeners. Preschool screeners are a free service to help centres identify children with any speech and language concerns and help facilitate taking next steps is therapy and assessment is required. Contact admin@littlesoundwaves.com.au to organise a free preschool screener for your centre!

Like breathing, swallowing is essential to everyday life. People swallow between 500–700 times a day, around three times an hour during sleep, once per minute while awake and even more during meals.

Over one million Australians have a swallowing difficulty (also known as dysphagia).

Dysphagia can occur at any stage of life. However, the knowledge of dysphagia and its implications remain largely unknown for most Australians.

Swallowing Awareness Day is an opportunity to bring attention to people with swallowing needs and connect them with speech pathologists, the professionals who can help.

Did you know local speech pathologists are offering FREE Speechie Library Talks for families?

Subject: Request for Speechie Talk at the Library

Dear [Local Library Name],
I’m a local parent and regular visitor to the library, and I wanted to ask if the library might consider applying to host a Speechie Talk in 2026.
These talks are run by speech pathologists and provide really helpful information for parents about supporting children’s speech, language and communication development. From what I understand, they cover things like early communication milestones, simple strategies parents can use at home, and when it might be helpful to seek support.
I think a session like this would be really valuable for families in our community. The library always does such a wonderful job supporting local families, so I thought it could be a great place to host something like this.
If it’s something the library would be open to exploring, the program is called Speechie Talks and information about applying should be available through their website.

More Aussie kids will soon be able to enjoy some of Australia’s most popular preschool programs.

From April 13, Australian children and families can enjoy Auslan‑accessible episodes of Bluey’s most popular episodes, Gardening Australia Jr, Ginger and the Vegesaurs, Kangaroo Beach, Fizzy & Suds, Knee High Spies, and later this year, Flower & Flour.

The ABC will continue to roll out more Auslan-accessible preschool titles, series and episodes each year on ABC iview.
