“No pain, no gain” is great for movies. Not great for nervous systems
Here’s the clinical truth:
Pain during treatment doesn’t mean something productive is happening
It often means your nervous system feels threatened
And when the nervous system feels threatened, it does the exact opposite of what we want
It guards
It tightens
It protects
It remembers
Real therapeutic change happens when the nervous system feels safe enough to let go of protection
That’s where the sweet spot is — enough input to create change, but not so much that the body fights back
This is why effective treatment isn’t about using more force. It’s about using the right force, in the right place, at the right time
Because you can’t bully the nervous system into healing. You have to work with it
No pain
Better gain
