Our carpark flu vaccine clinics will be commencing again on Saturday 11/4 and Sunday 12/4.

They’re a great way to get covered for flu this year, with our clinic suitable for families, anyone over 5 but especially for the elderly and those with reduced mobility.

The 2026 annual influenza vaccine is recommended for all people aged 6 months and older in Tasmania, with free vaccines (NIP) available for high-risk groups including

-children under 5

-adults over 65

-pregnant women

-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders

-and those with chronic conditions
(e.g., severe asthma, heart disease, diabetes, immunocompromising conditions).

Peak flu season is predicted to be June-September this year, and are recommending vaccination in April and May to cover this period.

Last night we celebrated our 5 year birthday at our Urgent Care Centre!

We also officially opened our new consulting rooms, and we were grateful to be joined by many dignitaries including Premier Jeremy Rockliff, Deputy Premier Guy Barnett, Education Minister Jo Palmer MLC, and Rob Fairs MP.

We were also humbled by the attendance of our specialist medical colleagues, along with our nursing, emergency services, radiology and pathology friends who’ve all supported us over so many years.

What started out as an idea between a few people to provide an alternative model of acute care in Launceston has turned into a permanent fixture in the Launceston health landscape, and we’ll continue to strive to provide the highest quality urgent medical care available in Tasmania.

Introducing Dr Deepika Sharma

Dr Sharma moved to Launceston in 2022 and enjoys all areas of general practice, with a special interest in women’s health, pregnancy care, skin, mental health, paediatrics and urgent care. She has also recently completed further training in sexual and reproductive health.

Outside of work she’s a busy mum who loves travelling, cooking, dancing and spending time in the garden.

We’re so excited to welcome Dr Renae Myhill to the team!

Renae has just relocated from NSW and will be working across Newstead Medical and Kings Meadows Medical Centre.

Renae brings extensive experience from hospitals and general practice settings across rural Australia and abroad, including a decade of practice in northern NSW before making Tasmania home.

She enjoys the full breadth of general practice, caring for patients with acute and chronic conditions and providing proactive preventive care.

Her special interests include women’s health, mental health, travel medicine and palliative care.

Outside of work, you’ll find her running, in the garden or practicing yoga.

We’re so happy she’s made the move down to Tassie, and she is currently accepting new patients!

Yesterday we bandanna’d together to support Canteen Australia, the incredible Australian charity helping young people facing cancer.

We love any excuse to dress up especially when it’s for a cause this meaningful.

After many years of mentoring medical students and contributing to our Kings Meadows Medical community, Dr Hopwood is relocating interstate to be closer to family.

We’ll miss really him. Best wishes Dr Hopwood! ☺️

Next week we farewell Dr Chris Hopwood as he relocates interstate to be closer to his growing family of grandchildren.

Originally a solo GP in rural NSW for 30 years, he relocated to Tassie in 2016 after a trip with his family a few years prior where they all fell in love with the surrounds.

He's been at Kings Meadows Medical Centre ever since, teaching the first medical students to ever rotate through the practice. His love of teaching has seen him impart many decades of wisdom to countless medical students since then, and we will all miss him greatly.

Thank you so much for your service Dr Hopwood, and wishing you all the best as you wind down to spend more time with family.

What a fantastic morning at the Women’s 5k in Launceston!

The energy was amazing and the smiles said it all.

A few of our team even smashed out their very first 5K at a run pace which is such an incredible milestone!

Our CEO Doug flew around the course, running the fastest time for our team.
