HUNGER vs APPETITE… what is the difference? 🤔

⚡️ Hunger occurs in the body, and is a physiological need for food. A signal that tells us we need to eat in the near future.

🧠 Appetite occurs in the brain, and is a psychological want for food. Brought on by either seeing or smelling something that seems delicious.

Honoring physical hunger ensures the body's energy and nutrient needs are met, while acknowledging appetite allows for the enjoyment, comfort, and cultural aspects of food, which are also important parts of a healthy relationship with eating 💚

BOOST YOUR IRON! 💪🥦

Some foods can help your body to absorb iron, while others can inhibit it. Pair iron-rich foods with vitamin C-rich foods to help improve the absorption of iron from your food.

✅ Eat foods like citrus fruits, capsicum and broccoli, with your iron-rich meals
✅ Drink tea, coffee, and wine *between* meals instead of with them
✅ Steaming vegetables like spinach can help improve iron absorption from them

Consult a doctor or dietitian about whether an iron supplement is appropriate for you.

Protein is very important for muscle mass growth and maintenance, and without it we would struggle to manage our daily activities, would have a lower metabolic rate, and could become quite weak and fragile.

💚 So what 30g of protein actually look like?

🍗 130g cooked chicken breast
🥚 5 whole eggs
🥛 30g scoop protein powder
🐟 120g tinned tuna
🍣 130g cooked salmon
🥬 150g firm tofu + 100g edamame
🥬 125g seitan

We recommend aiming for at least 30 grams of protein at each meal, and remembering your body only utilises so much protein at one time.
