Our Physiotherapist Tim has been working hard behind the scenes, and is now the FIRST EVER Specialist Pain Physiotherapist (awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2021).

We are all so proud of his achievement, and are excited for what the future holds. Congratulations Tim! 🌟

Congratulations the FIRST EVER Specialist Pain Physiotherapist Tim Austin FACP, who was officially conferred fellowship today (awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2021).

It has been quite a journey for our first Specialist Pain Physiotherapist. Hard earned and is well deserved. Congratulations on paving the way for all those that follow. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

The cat cow stretch - a lovely stretch to get movement through your spine and focus on your breathing.

Start in 4 point kneel position with hands directly under shoulders, and knees directly under hips, as illustrated.

Arch your back like an angry cat, bringing gaze to ceiling, then bring gaze towards knees, dome the upper back, and straighten arms. Hold each position for a few seconds.

Relax and repeat for approximately 1 minute.

We love this calming breathing technique, for when you need a little help to focus on your breath.

Having a conscious focus on your breath has shown to help relax your body and its systems in a natural and mindful way. This can be done when you're feeling anxious, or even as a regular bed time routine.

Globally, men die on average six years earlier than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable. Which means that it doesn’t have to be that way: we can all take action to live healthier, happier and longer lives.

We have seen so many patients come in to our clinic with Low Back Pain in the past few months. This common discomfort has been heightened by the COVID 19 pandemic, and an increase in sitting time in set ups that aren't optimal.

Movement is your best friend in this situation. As much as it sounds like a good idea to rest, we believe doing the correct type of movement will be able to help you feel better sooner!

Low back pain (LBP) is the leading global cause of years lived with disability and places a significant socioeconomic burden upon individuals and health systems worldwide.

A recent JoP study found that people who have experienced low back pain are open to using exercise to reduce their risk of recurrence; however, they tend to prefer exercise programs that differ from those exercise programs that are known to be effective.

We have seen a lot of people come in to the practice with pain as a result from working at home during the COVID pandemic. Many of us have been forced to work at home, and quite a lot of home offices around the country aren't as ergonomically set up as they should be.

A few tips to remember when using the computer, both at home and at work if you're able to head in to the office:

- The top of your computer screen should be at your eye
height.

- If possible, have a separate screen monitor. If not possible, prop your laptop up and get a separate keyboard. This will allow from screen height to come up, and you don't have to stretch to the keyboard.

- Take regular breaks! It's very easy to get stuck into work when you're working at home and not get up.

- Your arms should make an L shape when using the keyboard. Remember relaxed shoulders!

- Keep your chin tucked in, try not to poke it out towards the screen.
