The word โ€˜Chiropracticโ€™ was derived from the Greek words cheir (meaning โ€˜handโ€™) and praktos (meaning โ€˜done), meaning Done by Hand! This name was chosen by the founder of Chiropractic, Dr. Daniel David Palmer. Chiropractors use their hands to assess and treat your spine, helping you to function optimally.

Chiropractors are often thought of as back or bone doctors, however, they are more specifically evaluating the ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™ซ๐™ค๐™ช๐™จ ๐™จ๐™ฎ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ข. The nervous system is the master controller that regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system in the body. Chiropractors assess your spine thoroughly, making sure your spine is functioning well and not interfering with the function of your nervous system. Any interference to the nervous system will reduce your bodyโ€™s ability to operate optimally, causing pain and dysfunction.

The human head weights 5kg. For every inch your head is tilted forward, it doubles the weight your neck has to carry!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

We are all guilty of having text necks, but it's also probably impossible for us to completely ditch our devices ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Therefore, it's extremely important that we practice good habits like holding our phones at eye level to minimise forward tilting of our necks and limit device time to avoid excessive strain on the neck.

Patients often come into our clinic asking, "How did I hurt my back? I didn't even do anything!"

Most of the time, your symptoms are not a result of some sort of significant trauma or event. It is the result of an accumulation of smaller events or bad habits over time, such as poor posture, repetitive stress injuries, minor falls onto your back etc. Your body can handle most of those microtraumas and adapt to the stresses quite well, however when it's had enough, even the tiniest additional stress to your body can cause a significant amount of back pain.

The last straw that sets off a back pain can often be the smallest things like bending forward to put on shoes, getting out of the car, or even a sneeze.
