Darwin Homebirth Group

Darwin Homebirth Group You don't have to have had a homebirth to join in - it's about our philosophy.

The Darwin Homebirth Group is a volunteer run collective of parents who share the philosophy that pregnancy, labor and birth are normal, natural family centered events. The Darwin Home Birth Group supports birth choices for all women, home birth and one to one midwifery care being some of those choices.

Our first outdoors meetup for the year! 🌺
We had a humid but lovely morning at De La Plage with a few bubs and older siblings (not all pictured).

Our next meet up will be Sunday April 26 for some water play in the botanic gardens playground. Bring the family along!

Did you know the Darwin Homebirth Group has been completely volunteer-run since the 1980s?

And those volunteers are superstars who have juggled babies in arms and on laps, along with work and other commitments. All while showing up with smiles on their sleep deprived faces.

We are so grateful 💛

Last year, we took the bold step to decrease the workload on our volunteer families. Now we only require volunteers to contribute 2 hours of their time per year - that's it.

If you are able to assist us so the group can keep running, we'd love to hear from you.

The Darwin Homebirth Group can't exist without volunteers.
Can you spare 2 hours a year to help?

The dry season weather lingered for our monthly meet up this morning at Sanctuary Lakes. And at some point, everyone got to sit down and enjoy the shared stories and busy kids.

Come say hi 👋 You can spot us by the preschoolers, toddlers, babies and newborns, bikes, prams and shared picnic food. Everyone who shares our ethos is welcome, you don't need to have had a homebirth, be planning a homebirth or have a baby.

After 39 wonderful years, the Darwin Homebirth Group is entering a new chapter. We are merging with Childbirth Education Association and will no longer be an incorporated association.

Childbirth Education Association Darwin (our long term sister organisation) will continue to manage our birth equipment hire, as they have done for the last 18 months, ensuring our community continues to access equipment smoothly and with care.

The hiring process won’t change.
It will continue to be managed using our email address.

Today’s morning tea included a swim and a visit to feed the fish. We spent some time with a lovely Homebirth family and the kids enjoyed splashing around escaping the heat. We aren’t having a meet up next month due to the long weekend - but we will be at De La Plage on the 25th of May 🤍 can’t wait to see you there.
