***Symptoms that can be observed
1. Neck pain radiating down the arm
• Starts from the neck and radiates to the shoulder, upper arm, elbow, to the hand and fingers
• May occur on one or both sides (usually on one side)
2. Numbness/tingling/needle-like sensations
• Feeling tingling in the painful area or numbness in the fingers
3. Weak arm muscles
• Loss of grip, difficulty lifting the arm, not holding things firmly
4. Symptoms worsen when tilting or raising the neck
• For example, when turning the neck or looking up, the pain will be more severe
5. Decreases when resting or lying flat
• Especially when supporting a low pillow or having a pillow under the arm
****Nerves that are often compressed in the neck****
• C5: Pain in the shoulder, outer upper arm
• C6: Radiates down the wrist–thumb
• C7: Radiates to the middle finger
• C8: Radiates to the ring finger–little finger
