Most women wait longer than they should before getting answers.
If something feels off, your body is usually trying to tell you something.
Don’t ignore the signs - gynaecological scans could give you clarity sooner than you think.

Please note all our locations are closed today in observance of the ANZAC Day public holiday.
We acknowledge this day of national significance across Australia.
Normal hours will resume tomorrow.

This ANZAC Day, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all who have served and continue to serve.
At Ultrasound Care, we take a moment to reflect on the values of bravery, mateship, and resilience that define the ANZAC spirit, and to remember those who gave so much.
We will never forget their contribution and the freedoms it has afforded us.
Lest we forget.

Ever been told you need a sonohysterography and immediately thought… what even is that?
It’s a specialised ultrasound procedure that gives a much clearer view of the inside of the uterus than a standard scan.
Your doctor may refer you when they need more detail to investigate things like abnormal bleeding, fertility concerns, or changes seen on a routine ultrasound.
It’s all about getting clearer answers so the right treatment plan can be made.
If you’ve been referred, you’re not alone and there’s a very clear reason behind it.

Ultrasound scans are not only meaningful moments—they are important medical examinations that require focus, precision, and care.
Our latest blog explores why maintaining a calm, controlled scanning environment plays a key role in ensuring accurate results, supporting patient comfort, and allowing for sensitive communication when it matters most.
From reducing distractions to creating a space for thorough assessment, small factors can make a significant difference in your care.
To support the best possible experience and outcomes, we kindly ask patients to:
✔️ Limit the number of support persons in the scan room
✔️ Avoid bringing young children if possible
✔️ Silence mobile phones and electronic devices
✔️ Refrain from bringing food or drinks into the scanning room
Struggling to fall pregnant? You’re not alone—and it’s not something you should have to guess your way through.
A fertility assessment scan is one of the first steps we take to understand what’s really going on. It looks at your uterus, ovaries, and overall reproductive health to identify any potential barriers early.
Because the sooner you have answers, the sooner you can take the right next step.

What is the 19–20 week scan — often called the “Morphology” scan?
This recommended ultrasound is one of the most important milestones in your pregnancy. At this stage, we can usually see your baby’s limbs and internal organs in clear detail.
During the scan, we assess:
• That the fetal heart is beating
• Whether there is more than one baby
• Fetal growth and size
• The volume of amniotic fluid
• The position of the placenta
• The length of the cervix
• Structural development and possible abnormalities
It’s sometimes called a “morphology scan” because we examine your baby’s shape and development and carefully check for structural concerns.
For many parents, this appointment is both reassuring and deeply meaningful — a detailed check on how your pregnancy is progressing.
If you’re approaching 19–20 weeks, speak with your healthcare provider about arranging your scan.

Endometriosis can develop when uterine lining cells flow backward into the abdomen during your period — called retrograde menstruation.
These cells may attach to organs like the ovaries or bowel, leading to pain, adhesions, or fertility issues.
➡️ When they grow on the ovaries, chocolate cysts can form.
➡️ Early detection and specialist care can help manage symptoms and protect fertility.

Preeclampsia can be serious—but early screening keeps you and your baby safe. From ultrasounds to blood pressure checks, here’s what happens and why it matters.

Did you know that 1 in 20 people are carriers of a genetic condition, even if there’s no family history? Genetic carrier screening can help assess your risk of having a child affected by certain conditions before or during pregnancy.
At Ultrasound Care, our team of specialist doctors and genetic counsellors provides personalised guidance, helping you understand your options and make informed decisions for your family.
➡️ Early screening = peace of mind.
➡️ Available for couples planning a pregnancy or already pregnant.

A common question we get: “When will my doctor receive my ultrasound report and images?”
After your scan, the images are carefully reviewed and a detailed report is prepared by one of our specialist doctors. Once finalised, the report and images are securely sent to your referring doctor, so they can review the results and discuss them with you.
This process helps ensure your doctor receives accurate information to guide your care and next steps.
If you ever have questions about your results, our team is always here to help guide you through the process.

Ultrasound Care began way back in 1996, in a single borrowed consulting room at the RPA Medical Centre in Newtown.
Dr Philippa Ramsay was an obstetrician/gynaecologist who sub-specialised in ultrasound. She had worked in other private ultrasound practices and as the first female O&G Ultrasound specialist in Sydney, she could see how it could be done better, with more understanding of the women's needs.
She was well supported by her colleagues who wanted their patients treated with sensitivity and care. She became busier and was soon joined by highly skilled sonographers and specialists who had a similar ethos.
The sonographers Mary McPhail and Rowena Gibson are still at Ultrasound Care 20 years later!!
And in the mean time we have added more than 40 experienced, warm and caring sonographers, genetic counsellors and female obstetricians to the team.
It is a wonderful place to work. And that was one of Philippa’s other dreams. To make a practice that she and other women would want to go, and do their best work.
