Unfortunately there’s not clear guidelines in oz for post natal rehab.
No matter what type of birth you had, what amount of damage, what number birth it is, here’s the evidence based no brainer approach for a safe and appropriate return to exercise. Not to mention lower the risk of future issues for your core and downstairs reason (incontinence and painful s*x for example)
Yes there’s a cost until our government catches up to Europe and funds women’s health rehab, but if you see your GP you may be eligible for a medicare rebate and if you have private health you might also get a portion covered
1. WOMENS HEALTH PHYSIO
Detailed assessment of your function and diagnosis of specific muscles/tendons needing rehab, scar tissue treatment, abdominal seperation review, specific feedback of pelvic floor activation to take out the guessing to name a few key issues.
There are plenty on the coast with different levels of experience and qualifications - so ask at booking to make sure you have the level you need

2. PELVIC FLOOR AND CORE REHAB
Basically your homework a Physio would give you after an injury (just like you would for an ankle injury)
That’s exactly what VHAB is. Rehab exercises but with a Women’s health Exercise Physiologist. It’s available in person on the Central Coast or Online for everyone
There’s some other rehab programs now on the coast if you’re not near us. Most of the Physios above now have them.
3. RETURN TO IMPACT AND WEIGHTS
You’ve been pregnant for 9 months, plus birth injuries plus the new born phase. So even for those few that continue to exercise, it’s less exercise. You ain’t going to be back at full throttle on a few weeks. You need careful appropriate build up.
We have an advanced VHAB program and bootcamp exactly for this. also has a fantastic program on a gym with all the gear but with a specialist in gym training.
If you follow these steps I promise you, you are going to safely tackle any obstacles that come your way but also reduce any risk of future issues.
