So Long, Farewell untill next time...

As the 23/24 season draws to a close, it is time to bid a fond farewell to many of Oz Groups Pickers and Packhouse Packers.
Whilst Oz Group provides regular employment to those of the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers of NSW, Oz Group also enjoys the varied, and unique cultures of those employed; and chooses to embrace diversity in the workplace.
This is highly evident at our recent send-off BBQ and Pizza event.

Exchanging of gifts, "thank you’s", and personal connections makes you feel positive about the future, this little pocket of the world we live in, and how we inspire those around us to live a fruitful and better life.

What is special about 20th December?

Every year on December 20th, it’s International Human Solidarity Day a day to celebrate our unity in diversity.

The main purpose of observing International Human Solidarity Day is to promote unity and harmony.
It's also a day to raise awareness about the importance of solidarity. Solidarity is defined as an awareness of shared interests and objectives that create a psychological sense of unity that bind people together as one.

Ever wondered where your Blueberries come from?

In Australia Blueberries have two common varietal families: highbush and rabbiteye.

Highbush Blueberries – This is the most common variety in Australia, with many cultivars suited to the Australian climate.
The two most popular cultivars grown in Australia are the Northern Highbush and the Southern Highbush.
Just to confuse things, the Northern Highbush is grown in Victorian, Tasmania, and Southern NSW, while the Southern Highbush is grown in milder regions like Northern NSW and Southern Queensland.

Rabbiteye Blueberries – Is a late season variety, which can endure warm and humid summers and tolerate dry conditions like no other, making it right at home in Northern NSW and Queensland.
Much of Australia’s Blueberry production is centered around Coffs Harbour in NSW and this is where the majority of production occurs across the summer months.

And by the way…..
- Blueberries are one of the few truly blue foods on earth.
- The white, powdery substance on fresh blueberries is called “bloom.”
Bloom indicates that the berries are fresh.
- The blueberry bush is a relative of the rhododendron and the azalea.

Fun times on the Gold Coast

As the saying goes…. “All work and no play……."
In the spirit of sharing and making new experiences some of our valued members from Oz Group’s PALM Team headed to the Gold Coast for a day of fun at Dreamworld; with many putting aside some of their well earned money for the special day

With over 40 rides and attractions to thrill there would have been some fabulous memories made.

Today is Red Planet Day – a day to celebrate and learn about the amazing RED PLANET MARS

Why is Red Planet Day celebrated?
Every year on November 28th, Red Planet Day commemorates the launch of Spacecraft Mariner 4.
After 3 previous attempts, Spacecraft Mariner 4 became the first successful flyby of Mars.

Mars is known as the "Red Planet" because it appears faintly reddish/orange when viewed in the night sky.
This signature colour comes from the large amount of a chemical called iron oxide (or 'rust' as you might know it) in its rocks and soil.

Mars is the fourth planet and the furthest terrestrial planet from the Sun.
The distance from Earth to Mars can be anywhere from 54.6 million km and 401 million km, depending on the Earth’s rotation.

Off on a Dorrigo Adventure

Some lucky Oz Group PALM workers ventured up the mountain to the town of Dorrigo to visit the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre. They learned about the Gumbaynggirr people and experienced the wonder of the area from the elevated boardwalk.

Looks like fun!
