While the School holidays and the NDIS battle continues, I was reminded of why I had chosen the career. Throughout the holidays, I have run small Bricks club (based on the Brick-by-Brick® program). I have started these groups back in 2023 when I became one of the first Advanced Facilitators in Australia.
Running groups has its challenges but I have learnt so much from my clients. At his heart, the program helps developing skills such as teamwork, problem solving skills, communication and creativity. However, this program has resulted in additional outcomes for my clients.
This week, I received photographs from a parent showcasing a house built by their son (made of LEGO®, of course). These were not the first images I had received. He had previously built a town and an octopus. He grew from a child who doubted his abilities (“I am not very good at it”) to a confident and creative builder. However, the most notable outcome was that he began to mentor his peers during sessions. A true heartwarming and proud moment to share with his family!
Note: I won’t be able to share a picture of “his house” on social media, but trust me it is beautifully design and crafted.

We have BIG news! DLD Together, a free online course for families of children and young people with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is coming to Australia!

DLD Together is an initiative started by Afasic and Naplic in the UK to support families to know more about DLD and improve access to information.

It is believed that well informed and well supported families are essential for children and young people with DLD to reach their full potential.

DLD Together Australia consists of 7 weekly sessions, each lasting 60-90 minutes, and led by professionals who work with children with DLD. It will help families:

âś… To understand DLD and how it applies to their child

✅ To develop an understanding of a child’s individual language profile

âś… To develop strategies to support a child at home

✅ To learn how they can support a child’s learning

âś… To meet other families of children with DLD

Families can express their interest in participating in the program at our website: https://thedldproject.com/support-for-people-with-dld/

đź’śSending special thanks to James and the team at CloudTec Accountants, Paul Bethell, Hibba Nagrial, Voon Pang, Pop Family Speech Pathology (Green Team) plus Robert, Cindy and the RADLD WA community for raising funds to enable the launch of this vital family support program in Australia.

đź’ś You can make a tax deductible donation to help more families access DLD Together Australia here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bring-the-dld-together-program-to-australia
