๐Ÿ’™ World Diabetes Day 2025 | A New Way of Understanding Diabetes ๐ŸŒ

Today, on World Diabetes Day, Iโ€™m reflecting on the science and the growing movement among researchers, clinicians, and pharmacists who are advocating for a new, more holistic approach to Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is not just about blood sugar. Itโ€™s about lifestyle, early detection, nutrition, stress, sleep, medication optimisation, and a supportive healthcare network.
With over 1 in 20 Australians living with diabetes, the shift toward prevention and personalised care has never been more important.

At Aussie Care Hub Midnight Pharmacy, we are committed to supporting our community through:
โœ” Personalised medicines advice
โœ” Diabetes medication and device counselling
โœ” Lifestyle & diet support
โœ” Blood glucose guidance
โœ” Full access to pharmacists every day, open till midnight

โœจ Diabetes is manageable and you are never alone.

๐ŸŒ World Diabetes Day 2025 | Rethinking Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’™

Today, on World Diabetes Day, Iโ€™m reflecting on the science and the growing global movement of health professionals, researchers, and community leaders who are calling for a major shift in how we understand, prevent, and manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is no longer just a medical condition โ€” itโ€™s a public health priority, impacting millions of Australians and shaping the future of healthcare.
From early screening and lifestyle support to workplace health programs and accessible community pharmacy care, we are learning that diabetes management must be proactive, personalised, and holistic.

๐Ÿ’™ Key Messages This Year:
โ€ข Focus on prevention through healthier workplaces and communities
โ€ข Early education and regular monitoring to reduce long-term complications
โ€ข Supporting patients with personalised care, medication review, and lifestyle counselling
โ€ข Empowering families and workplaces to create healthier environments

As pharmacists, we are at the frontline โ€” helping people understand their risks, reviewing medicines, monitoring blood glucose, providing coaching, and guiding them towards healthier living every single day.

โœจ Diabetes is manageable. With the right support, you can take control โ€” not the disease.
Visit your local pharmacy, ask questions, and prioritise your health.

13/11/2025

We all know how it feels the day after a poor sleep. Low energy, lack of focus and irritability are classic signs of a restless night.

These short-term impacts are obvious as they affect your day-to-day functioning, but many people underestimate the serious long-term health consequences of sleep deprivation.

Consistently sleeping less than the recommended amount (7โ€“9 hours per night for adults) increases your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, dementia, and mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. It also weakens your immune system, making you more vulnerable to illness.

Of course, achieving a consistent sleep schedule isnโ€™t always easy โ€” especially for shift workers or parents of young children. But where possible, prioritising sleep is essential. โ€˜Hustle cultureโ€™ celebrates maximising waking hours, but burning the candle at both ends eventually leads to burnout.

Here are a few ways to improve your โ€˜sleep hygieneโ€™ and give your body more time to rest and recover:

๐Ÿ•˜ Stick to a regular bedtime and wake-up schedule (including weekends)
๐Ÿ”‡ Optimise your bedroom for sleep โ€” keep it quiet, dark, and cool
๐Ÿƒ Stay physically active during the day
โ˜• Avoid caffeine and ni****ne close to bedtime
๐Ÿ“ด Put your phone away an hour before bed
๐ŸŒž Keep daytime naps short

Some conditions can significantly impact sleep and require further attention. Sleep apnoea is a serious disorder where breathing repeatedly stops and starts throughout the night.

Many people donโ€™t even realise they have sleep apnoea. Signs can include loud snoring, waking up gasping or choking, morning headaches or sore throat, and excessive daytime sleepiness.

If youโ€™re struggling with sleep or are concerned about sleep apnoea, chat with your local pharmacist about steps you can take to improve your sleep and overall wellbeing.

๐ŸŒธ Cervical Cancer Awareness Week ๐ŸŒธ

Did you know? Around 900 Australian women are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, and sadly, about 200 lose their lives โ€” yet most cases are preventable through regular screening and vaccination. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ” Early Warning Signs to Watch For:

Abnormal vaginal bleeding (after s*x, between periods, or after menopause)

Unusual vaginal discharge

Pain during s*x or in the pelvic area

๐Ÿ’ช Early detection saves lives!
Regular Cervical Screening Tests (CST) can detect changes before they turn into cancer, giving you the best chance for successful treatment.
