As we get older, regular exercise helps keep our heart strong, muscles and bones healthy, and balance steady to reduce falls.

Here, our Exercise Physiologist Kait demonstrates some simple exercises you can try at home โ€” with ways to challenge yourself as you improve:

1๏ธโƒฃ Chair Squats โ€“ strengthen legs & improve balance. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Challenge: stagger your feet or try a hover/pulse at the bottom.

2๏ธโƒฃ Wall Push-Ups โ€“ build chest, shoulder & arm strength. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Challenge: progress from the wall to a kitchen bench.

3๏ธโƒฃ Heel-to-Toe Walk โ€“ improve balance & coordination. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Challenge: try walking backwards or bounce a ball while you walk.

4๏ธโƒฃ Seated Torso Twists โ€“ enhance flexibility & core control. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Challenge: add a resistance band for strength + mobility.

Growing pains in kids? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธโšฝ๏ธ

If your childโ€™s been training hard or hitting a growth spurt, knee or heel pain could be more than just โ€œaches.โ€ Two common conditions we see:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Osgood Schlatterโ€™s (knee pain)
Occurs when the tendon pulls on the shinboneโ€™s growth plate, causing inflammation.
๐Ÿ”น Often worsens with running, jumping, or kneeling.
First steps: Rest & activity modification, ice, gentle quad/hamstring stretches + strengthening.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Severโ€™s Disease (heel pain)
Inflammation of the heel growth plate from repetitive stress (especially in sports with running/jumping).
๐Ÿ”น Pain often worse after activity or when squeezing the heel.
First steps: Rest, ice, calf/Achilles stretches, supportive footwear or heel lifts if needed.

โœ… Most kids recover fully with the right management and can return to sport pain-free.
