This week we are very excited to welcome Jemima to our team 🌈✨ Jemima is a fun and bubbly speech pathologist who is wonderful with kids.

To get to know Jemima we’ve asked her to share 5 fun facts:

1☀️I love to listen and play music. Some people call me a human Shazam - I can name the title or artist of most songs. When I was younger, I taught myself how to play the guitar and I was in the Australian Youth Choir.

2☀️I love to travel and immerse myself in different cultures - I went to Japan earlier this year and Europe in 2022.

3☀️ I am left-handed!

4☀️ I volunteer for the Air Force Cadets - I was a cadet when I was in high school. I have had some awesome experiences since volunteering with the cadets, like flying in small planes and camping army-style! I love giving back to the community.

5☀️I cry in almost every Disney movie! I am a big softie.

☀️ We’ve had a month of growth at TSP! This week we welcome our newest team member, Jacinta.

Jacinta will be the friendly face on arrival at reception.

Find out 5 fun things about Jacinta:

🩷 I’m a mum of three beautiful girls (8yo, 5yo and 3yo)! They go to school locally and we love being apart of the North Lakes community.

👩🏻‍🎓I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Psychology and hope to one day work as an Educational Psychologist or Guidance Officer.

🚃 I lived in Melbourne for 4 years and moved back to Brisbane a year ago. I’m loving being closer to family (aka babysitters) and love being able to enjoy Brisbane’s beautiful weather with my family any chance we get.

🧸 I previously worked in a toy store and am obsessed with toys, particularly Lego! My favourite one to date has been the Van Gogh Starry Night.

🍱 I am a big foodie and love going and trying new restaurants, particularly Greek and Thai.

Jacinta is settling in well to her new role and we are excited for you all to meet her 🌸

We are so happy to welcome Chloe! Our newest speech pathologist to join TSP.

Get to know Chloe with 5 fun facts:
🌻Speech Pathology is something I fell in love with many years ago when visiting family in Ireland and experiencing first hand how speech pathologists can help. I am excited to officially be a certified practitioner and can't wait to begin my career here at Talem Speech Pathology.

🍀I love to Irish Dance! I started dancing from the age of 3 and was lucky enough to travel the world doing what I love. Both competitively and professionally, I have performed on national and international stages and I am now a registered teacher with Scoil Ard Rince.

💗I recently got engaged in Scotland and I am currently having the time of my life organising our wedding in October 2025.

🥘My love language is food. Whether it is going out for dinner with friends and family or staying in and making home made meals, I love trying new foods from all different cultures.

🐶I am obsessed with dogs. My doggo Winter is one of my favourite things in the world and we love going for puppucinnos. If I see a dog out and about I will 100% ask if I can pat them.

Welcome to the team, Chloe 🎉

The importance of tongue posture for facial development and airways ✨PART 2✨

So what is the correlation between jaw growth and nasal breathing?
👃🏽The roof of the mouth is the floor of the nose. So if the hard palate does not expand forward, it stays high and/ or vaulted like a dome in the mouth.

👃🏾A high palate then encroaches on floor of the nose, reducing space and potentially causing the nasal septum to deviate.

👃🏼With less space in the nose, breathing becomes more laborious, leading to mouth breathing. The nasal passage then becomes more and more congested and sometimes could even become infected. The stagnation of mucous within the warm passages form a breeding ground for bacteria.

👃🏻Sinusitis, rhinitis, middle ear infection and post-nasal drip will become all too common occurrences. It is not an allergic reaction but a functional shift that results in compensation.
