Occupational Therapy Assistant (Casual)

At Outcomes Therapy, we offer individualised and holistic assessment and intervention to children aged Birth-18 years, who present with varying difficulties in their communication, play, social, literacy development, fine and gross motor development, sensory integration and emotional regulation.
We also specialise in working with children who have additional needs (in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as Sensory processing difficulties, Developmental Delays, ADD/ADHD, fine and gross motor difficulties, handwriting problems, school readiness, behaviour and learning difficulties ). We work closely with local Speech and Language pathologists and Physiotherapists. We are registered to provide services through Medicare, NDIS, FaHCSIA and Better Start programs.
We are currently recruiting for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the team on a Casual basis, with some negotiation to hours and days possible. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing clinic or community based client-centred therapeutic intervention under the direct/remote supervision of an Allied Health clinician (Occupational Therapist typically, potentially Speech Pathologist). The service could be delivered in an individual or a group setting.
This is a community-based position - largely in the Moreton Bay region, and the north side of Brisbane - and requires independent travel between clients. You must have access to a vehicle and have an unrestricted drivers' license. This role will involve a few hours to begin (negotiable with families), with capacity to build hours as you desire so could definitely be completed alongside your studies. You will be working with a diverse caseload with a strong focus on genuine capacity building with individuals, their family members and other support systems (daycare educators or teaching staff, and support workers).
This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapy Student/ Allied Health Assistant/Teacher Aide with some paediatric experience. We are looking for someone who has a passion for working with children and adolescents (particularly those aged 4 – 15 years) with differing abilities and who is looking to make a positive difference in their lives. The successful candidate will have access to supervision and mentoring with a Senior Occupational Therapist, offering an excellent opportunity to develop clinical skills across a wide range of practice areas prior to graduation, with the potential to move into a new Graduate OT role thereafter.
Essential criteria:
• Current Student in Occupational Therapy or Qualified Allied Health Assistant/ Inclusion Support/Teacher Aide.
• Ability to follow therapy intervention plan, written directions and create fun activities for goals, as well as spontaneity
• Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills, with children, parents and other key stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively prioritise and organise own work / caseload and work independently on a day to day basis, with regular support from qualified Occupational Therapist.
• Access to own motor vehicle and current unrestricted drivers’ licence.
• Ability and willingness to drive as the role requires (car allowance provided)
• Full work rights to work in Australia
Desirable Criteria:
• Previous work or personal experience with individuals who have Autism Spectrum Disorders.
• Additional professional development or personal experience relevant to working with children and adolescents with additional needs.
• Ability to work 1-2 afternoons per week (between 2-5pm), and/or a Saturday on a fortnightly basis would be advantageous (although not essential).
