💕 We recently had a chance to thank Maranatha volunteer Jeff Hermann for so generously giving of his time, energy, and talents over the past 15 years.

His dedication and willingness to help others made a real difference, and we’re deeply grateful for all that Jeff has contributed.

Jeff has not stepped away from volunteering altogether, as he continues to give his time to the ongoing maintenance and running of the Maranatha Garden Train.

Volunteers like Jeff are the heart of what we do, and his efforts truly don’t go unnoticed.

Thank you again Jeff for everything!

✨ After almost 30 years of dedicated service, including 15 years as our CEO, Ross Peden will be retiring from Christadelphian Homes on 1 July, 2026.

Ross stepped down from the CEO role today, November 17, 2025, and our current Chief Operating Officer, Alison Bolton, has taken on the position of CEO. We’re grateful that Ross will continue with the organisation in a senior capacity until July 2026 to support Alison and help progress key initiatives into the new year.

Alison has been part of Christadelphian Homes for more than 13 years and has served as COO since 2023. Her appointment as CEO recognises the considerable experience she has in the Retirement Living, Residential Aged Care and Disability sectors, as well as her strong alignment with our Vision, Mission, and Values.

In the coming months, we will have the opportunity to formally farewell Ross and thank him for his significant contribution to Christadelphian Homes over many years.

Please join us in congratulating Alison on her upcoming appointment and in celebrating Ross for his service.

🐾 The team of volunteers from Positive Paws continue to bring four-legged companionship to the residents at Courtlands in North Parramatta.

The dogs and their owners bring a wonderful touch during their small group and individual visits. The dogs love the pats and attention they receive and the residents enjoy reminiscing about past pets, as well as the ongoing connections with our regular volunteers. ❤️

🎃 There was a magical feeling at Ashburn House last Friday as wizards, witches and goblins roamed the halls for Halloween. Residents and staff enjoyed some trick-or-treating fun, and there were lots of smiles all round at the clever and sometimes scary costumes! 💚

My name is Joe and I'm the Maintenance Manager at Maranatha. I have worked for Christadelphian Aged Care for over 10 years now, and worked at Maranatha doing the renovations as a carpenter before joining the CAC team.

I love my job here at Maranatha, it is a pleasure coming to work every day.

I was born in Scotland and moved to Australia 15 years ago with my wife Lesley and three children. One of my children, you will know well, is Sophie from the kitchen who also has the privilege of working in this beautiful home.

I love to travel and experience different cultures and surroundings. Being blessed to come from such a beautiful country as Scotland, I really appreciate the beauty and cultures of other countries, and the best I have been to so far is the South Island in New Zealand. My other passions in life apart from family and travelling is music, live concerts, the great outdoors and football (soccer). My lifelong team is Glasgow Celtic whom I follow passionately, even getting up in the wee small hours to watch games from back home.

Well, that’s enough about me for now. Take care and God bless - Joe

💡 Our residents are putting their thinking caps on with BrainTrainerPlus: a fun, interactive program designed to keep minds active through the joy of play.

With its touchscreen games and quizzes, it’s been wonderful to see residents engaging their minds and even getting a bit competitive!

It’s based on well-established theories highlighting the benefits of play therapy for older adults. BrainTrainerPlus is expected to make a positive impact by encouraging social interaction, boosting cognitive engagement, and providing a sense of achievement and enjoyment.

There are different levels from quite easy to very difficult so anyone can use the equipment solo, in pairs, or in a group. There are trivia and quizzes, games to match colours and recognise old songs, and it is all intellectual stimulus designed to sharpen residents’ minds and enhance their thought processes. With its intuitive touch screen, it is very easy to use.

Feedback so far has been very positive, and we're looking forward to seeing how our residents enjoy and benefit from this new addition to our Wellbeing program. 💗

He’s shared the stage with Shirley Bassey, performed for Princess Grace of Monaco, and rubbed shoulders with icons like Julie Andrews, Sean Connery, and Tom Jones, but these days you’ll find Perry Davey enjoying a quieter life at Ashburn House.

In 1959, at just 23 years old and newly married, Perry and his wife Faye left Australia with Perry’s business partner to pursue a life in entertainment in the Philippines. Perry was in a professional acrobatic adagio act called The Perrards, and Faye was a renowned cabaret singer.

Their amazing careers took them across Asia, performing in Japan, Korea (during the ceasefire!), Formosa and Taiwan, sometimes three shows a day, seven days a week! Their popularity soon reached Europe, where Perry performed across the continent and Faye was based in a famous London nightclub.

They often joke that their 67-year marriage has lasted so long because “absence makes the heart grow fonder"!

Over the years, Perry shared the stage with legends like Shirley Bassey, Cliff Richard, Neil Sedaka, Tom Jones, Edith Piaf, and Marlene Dietrich, and even performed live for Princess Grace of Monaco. His talent and industry-leading skills led to a career in film and television, working as a stunt co-ordinator and performer in classics like Victor Victoria, Indiana Jones, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Brazil, Far and Away, and more.

Perry also starred in the West End musical Barnum and appeared in several European TV series. Along the way, he and Faye counted many international stars as close friends, including Sean Connery, Julie Andrews, Michael Crawford and Petula Clark.

After 40 years based in London, they returned home to Adelaide for a “quieter” life. Perry continued to stay active, working at golf tournaments as a hospitality host (and yes, he’s a scratch golfer) and even trained Richard Branson for his Atlantic Challenge in the 1980s!

In retirement, Perry was a daily visitor to the gym, a keen social golfer, and a regular at the restaurants around Holdfast Marina in Glenelg with Faye.

In 2022, they moved to Sydney to be closer to their daughter Samantha, son-in-law Steve, and their precious granddaughter Mia, and their cavoodle Ginger is often seen visiting Ashburn House.

You can see some of Perry’s wonderful photos (including one with Princess Margaret!) proudly displayed in his room, or look him up online to see more of his extraordinary career! ❤️

🧶 Unfortunately our lovely Dell, who volunteers at Maranatha's knitting class, couldn’t attend recently, but much to the delight of all the ladies we had Chris our Personal Carer step in to assist.

He did an amazing job, and has realised knitting takes a special kind of skill. Hopefully he will continue with it! ❤️

🥁 The Wellbeing Team at Courtlands in North Parramatta recently introduced a new activity: Drum Beats!

Residents have been enjoying following the beats, creating rhythms together, and moving to the music.

The music and actions bring the benefits of working together, enjoyment and light exercise (without realising it!)

💞 If you’ve ever seen two bright smiles that look almost identical walking the halls of Ashburn House chances are you’ve met Aarti and Arpana.

These twin sisters are both Assistant in Nursing (AIN) team members and bring not only their skills and compassion to the job, but also a strong sense of calm and kindness that many residents have come to know well.

Originally from Nepal, Aarti and Arpana are deeply family oriented. “We do everything together,” they say, and it shows. Whether it’s working a shift, preparing for their nursing studies or simply sharing a laugh during their break, their connection is unshakeable. They often speak about how much they miss their family back home, but they’ve also found a new sense of belonging here.

The Ashburn community residents, staff and families alike have become a second family in many ways. Both sisters are currently studying Nursing and are passionate about building their future in aged care. They’re often seen supporting each other through exams, shifts and everyday life with the kind of support that only a twin could give.

When asked what they love most about their work, they both agree: “It’s the little things the smiles, the thank you, the chance to make someone feel at home.” And that’s exactly what they do every day. 💖
