Behaviour support rarely occurs in isolation.

Research consistently shows that multidisciplinary collaboration improves outcomes, particularly in complex presentations. When carers, practitioners, and support workers are aligned, responses become more consistent and behaviour becomes more predictable.

PBS is not just an intervention — it is a coordinated system.

Out in a community event this week 🤝

Events like these are a chance to connect, share what we do, and have real conversations with the people and services around us.

Positive Behaviour Support doesn’t happen in isolation — it’s built through relationships, collaboration, and understanding across the community.

Grateful to be part of it.

Many individuals receiving PBS are already supported by allied health professionals.

This overlap creates an opportunity — not duplication. When behaviour support aligns with communication, sensory, and mental health interventions, strategies become more consistent and effective across environments.

Alignment across disciplines is what strengthens outcomes.

Allied health professionals are often already supporting regulation, communication, and daily functioning.

When Positive Behaviour Support is added, the goal isn’t to replace that work — it’s to align with it.

PBS works best when strategies across disciplines connect, not compete. When communication, sensory support, and behaviour strategies move in the same direction, support becomes clearer and more consistent for the person.

Carers are often the most consistent part of a person’s support system.

Your observations, responses, and day-to-day understanding provide essential insight into how behaviour develops and what helps reduce distress.

PBS works best when carers are supported, informed, and included — because real change happens in everyday moments, not just during sessions.

Referral to Positive Behaviour Support should be considered when behaviour begins to escalate, impact safety, or become inconsistent across environments.

Clear indicators such as increasing risk, limited progress, and variability in responses often signal the need for structured assessment and coordinated support.

Early referral supports safer, more stable outcomes across teams.

What support workers actually need is clarity in how behaviour support is applied in real situations.

This includes clear, actionable guidance that goes beyond written plans — outlining exactly how to respond before, during, and after behaviours occur. Practical strategies must be usable in real-time environments, not just theoretical recommendations.

Equally important is confidence during escalation, which comes from training, modelling, and consistent reinforcement of approaches across the team. Without consistency, behaviour becomes less predictable and more difficult to manage.

Effective PBS ensures that all team members are aligned, supported, and equipped to respond in the same way — creating stability for both the individual and those supporting them.

Behaviour does not change in one session — and PBS shouldn’t be delivered that way.
A structured program allows time to understand function, trial strategies safely, support teams, and refine approaches using data. Without stages, there is no roadmap.
PBS works when the process is intentional and sustained.

Where structure meets collaboration.

Our work in Positive Behaviour Support relies on thoughtful discussion, shared formulation, and collective clinical reasoning. Every plan is strengthened through team dialogue and consistent alignment.

Complex behaviour requires structured thinking — and strong teams.

What is this behaviour achieving?
If we only try to stop it, we miss the answer — and the opportunity to support change properly.

If a behaviour continues, something is maintaining it.
Reinforcement does not always mean reward — it can mean relief, attention, avoidance, or regulation.

Understanding these patterns allows PBS to reduce escalation and build safer alternatives.

Change begins when reinforcement patterns change.
