Happy New Year! 🎉

As the new year approaches, there can be a lot of excitement, reflection, and pressure around goal-setting and planning. We hope you’re entering this next chapter in a way that prioritises burnout prevention, supportive systems, and self-love and compassion.

Wherever you are on your journey - energised, uncertain, resting, or somewhere in between - we genuinely hope that it all goes well for you

As New Year’s approaches, this is your reminder that there’s no one “right” way to celebrate 🎆

Neurodivergent nervous systems experience noise, crowds, expectations, and late nights differently—and that matters. The posts above share gentle, practical ways to support regulation, whether you’re going out, staying home, or doing something in between.

Fun can fill our cup and take from it. Both can be true.Only you know what your body and your family need to feel safe, connected, and okay.

A gentle note: there’s a lot more context and many more strategies than can fit into a single Instagram post. What’s shared here is general guidance only—always choose what feels right, safe, and healthy for you.

If you have upcoming events or situations you’re feeling unsure about, chatting with your Occupational Therapist can really help. Individualising strategies to your nervous system, sensory needs, and life circumstances is exactly what OT is here for. You’re always welcome to reach out to us for an in-person or telehealth session if you’d like support planning ahead 💛 link in bio

Celebrate in the way that works for you. Over time, choosing what feels right can help the guilt and FOMO soften.

🌟 January 2026 OT Holiday Groups🌟

We’re excited to share our upcoming OT Holiday Groups for January 2026!

Holiday groups are a lovely way to:
💚Try out group therapy
💚Connect with other Autistic and neurodivergent kids
💚Explore whether our groups feel like a good fit before committing to term programs

Our groups are carefully and intentionally formed. We don’t group children by age alone — we consider personalities, interests, communication styles, and support needs so everyone can feel safe, comfortable, and supported to learn and grow together.

These sessions also offer families a chance to get a feel for our clinic and our neuro-affirming approach, and to see whether a particular group feels right for your child.

To learn more about how we form groups and to register your interest in holiday or term groups, head to the link in our bio or complete the enquiry form on our website.

While we can’t guarantee a place in a group, we can guarantee a thoughtful, collaborative process that centres your child’s goals and wellbeing 💛

💚 Happy OT Week! 💚

As we wrap up the week, we just wanted to celebrate some of the amazing things the people we work with have achieved through their hard work in OT. We’re so proud of every single one of our clients — for the big wins, the small wins, and everything in between. 💫

With fluctuating capacity, end-of-year busyness, and the ups and downs of life, it’s easy to forget just how far we’ve come. But every win counts and should be recognised and celebrated. 🌿

At NeurodiversOTy, we’re passionate about educating and advocating for each person’s unique neurodivergent needs. When we understand these needs, we can find the external supports, environmental adaptations, and meaningful strategies that truly improve quality of life.

Here’s to celebrating growth, connection, and authenticity — this week and every week. 💛

🌟SENSORY PLAY 🌟

Incorporating sensory play into daily routines supports all aspects of development and helps children understand their sensory needs. Finding sensory play that you also enjoy means you are able to create more opportunities for non-tech quality connection time with your kiddos. For older primary school kids, this can also be a great way to chat about their day and create the moment to actually hear what's going on at school!

Research shows that sensory play is essential for children's development, providing a multitude of benefits across various activities. 🧠💪

💚Skill Building:
Engaging in sensory play—whether it’s with rice, water, play dough, or sand—helps improve fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and grip strength. These skills are crucial for daily tasks, such as writing and self-care.

💙Self-Regulation:
Sensory experiences promote emotional regulation. Tactile play helps children process and respond to sensory information, reducing anxiety and enhancing focus.

💛Cognitive Development: Manipulating different materials encourages problem-solving and imaginative play, vital for cognitive growth. Whether it’s following the recipe, pouring, scooping, or moulding, these activities spark creativity and critical thinking.

What sensory activities do your children enjoy or what are your favourites to do with your kids? 👇💬

About the Group:
This intensive 3-day program is a wonderful opportunity for children to start understanding their unique sensory preferences and build an internal awareness of how different senses affect their bodies. Through fun, engaging activities, they will also learn practical strategies to support their natural preferences. We will need your child to fill out our 'All About Me' poster to include in the social story to send out to everyone prior to the group.

Why Join Us?

💛 Sensory Tool Kit: Each child will receive a take-home sensory tool kit tailored to what they learn during the group.

Resource of the Month!

'Feeling My Emotions' and 'My Bare Feet' by

I met Heather at the Sydney Disability Expo a few months ago. She is a beautiful and wholesome soul and was really wonderful to chat to.

Definitely some of my favourite books for talking about emotions. They are calming, slow-paced books that talks about emotions in a very neutral way. Feeling My Emotions is a great book to help with changing the view of emotions to a state of more neutrality and calmness. It uses the vastness of different colours to represent emotions and give a great range of words to help label these.

Quote reads "Kids do well if they can" by Dr Ross Greene

Dr Ross Greene is a clinical psychologist and the creator of 'Collaborative and Proactive Solutions' (CPS) model.

This is a really good mantra to have when thinking about your child big emotions and a providing patience when your child has fluctuating capacity.

Kids want to be independent, they want to succeed, they want to engage, be happy, follow the rules. If it's not happening, it is not from lack of effort or motivation. We as their support team parents and health professionals need to look at they why and address those underlying challenges to support them to do and be the best that they can. For them this may look different everyday.

OT and psychology services can help you understand more of they WHY and HOW to help your child participate and engage in their everyday life.

Some of my favourite must have books for learning about emotions and discussions around understanding diagnoses.

Some of which you have probably already heard from - The Rainbow Brain and The Brain forrest. Perfect for parents and clinicians to use when going through understanding diagnoses and start that conversation on a positive and informative note.

'Let it Flow' from is excellent for going through strategies on how to move through and release emotions. Their let it flow emotion cards are beautiful too!

Masking pt 2

Masking takes a lot of mental and physical energy to maintain. It is not always a conscious choice. It is typically done in order to survive emotionally, socially, and in some instances physically. Being in a state of survival for so long can lead to burnout, depression, anxiety, panic attacks etc

So what can we do about it now?

There are many ways we can look at it and there is a lot more information to put in these slides, but lets just keep things simple by looking at 3 levels:

1. Personal Level
What can I do about it for myself or my family?
Addressing your own masking and acceptance of your sensory needs can be hugely powerful for your neurodivergent kiddos.
It takes time, effort, and lots of reflection and learning to understand, feel, and implement strategies for yourself but you can learn together. It's okay to not be perfect or to know everything. Model your journey and openness to growing
