MacKillop Seasons

MacKillop Seasons MacKillop Seasons help build the wellbeing and resilience of communities following adversity.

MacKillop Seasons' programs aim to strengthen the social and emotional well being of people who are experiencing major life changes and losses such as death, separation and divorce by supporting them to explore the impact of change and loss on everyday life and to learn new ways to respond. Written by Professor Anne Graham and built upon J William Worden’s theory of grief, our flagship program Seasons for Growth is an innovative grief and loss education program that uses the imagery of the seasons to illustrate the experience of grief. Our education programs are evidence based, and many external evaluations over the years have continued to affirm Seasons for Growth and its contribution to the lives of people touched by loss and grief. Throughout its 20 year lifespan the Seasons for Growth Children and Young People’s Program has gone through three iterations to incorporate new evidence and ensure that it continues to provide a relevant and highly valued experience for participants. Over its lifetime, over 200,000 children and young people have participated in the Seasons for Growth Program, along with thousands of adults.

🦉 Do you know a school or community organisation that needs support after a natural disaster, or wants to be better prepared for one?

Thanks to funding from the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund and the NSW Government, MacKillop Seasons is delivering the Stormbirds Disaster Readiness Initiative across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.

Stormbirds supports disaster readiness and recovery by strengthening the social and emotional well-being of children, young people, and the adults who support them. It helps schools and communities become more prepared, connected, and supported before, during, and after disasters.

Many participants prefer the online option because it is practical and accessible, whole teams can join together, the learning can fit into the school day, and there is no need to travel. This is especially beneficial for regional, rural, and remote communities.

During Cultural Diversity Week, we’re proud to share resources that help create care spaces where every child feels seen, respected and safe.

During Cultural Diversity Week, we’re coming together to launch a new suite of Multicultural Practice Resources designed to strengthen culturally responsive residential care across the out of home care sector.

Developed by MacKillop Family Services in collaboration with the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY), and launched with the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, these resources respond to real world challenges and experiences shared by children, young people, families, and practitioners.

The resources provide practical guidance on navigating racism in out of home care, building multicultural practice, strengthening multicultural advisor roles, and developing meaningful Cultural Support Plans.

You’re warmly invited to join this launch event, either in person or online, and connect with others committed to cultural safety and inclusion across the sector.

Self-Care and the Seasons

"Love yourself a little extra right now. You’re evolving, learning, healing, growing, and discovering yourself all at once."
— Idil Ahmed

In Seasons for Growth, we explore how feelings shift and change — just like the seasons.
Each season brings its own challenges and gifts. Be gentle with yourself as you grow through them.

🌸 At every level of our Seasons for Growth program — children, young people and adults — we use activities that not only encourage self care but help individuals to gain some sense of control and find a way of moving forward.

One of the group’s favourites is the floating flower activity. As the paper flower gently unfolds on the water, there’s always a moment of wonder and awe. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that new life and hope can emerge, even after difficult times. 🌸💧✨

Our Story

Good Grief's programs aim to strengthen the social and emotional well being of people who are experiencing major life changes and losses such as death, separation and divorce by supporting them to explore the impact of change and loss on everyday life and to learn new ways to respond. Written by Professor Anne Graham and built upon J William Worden’s theory of grief, our flagship program, Seasons for Growth, is an innovative grief, change and loss education program that uses the imagery of the seasons to illustrate the experience of grief. Our education programs are evidence based, and many external evaluations over the years have continued to affirm Seasons for Growth and its contribution to the lives of people touched by loss and grief. Over its lifetime, over 200,000 children and young people have participated in Seasons for Growth, along with thousands of adults.

The unique thing about our programs is that they enable you to become a Companion and make a difference within your own community. That way, children do not need to be removed from their familiar environment or work with unfamiliar faces in order to learn skills to help them become more emotionally adaptable, resilient and learn how to respond positively to change, in other words, life-skills. You are also empowered to respond to a need when it arises and within your own time-frame.
