We're happy to announce that our very first Topsoil Garden program has commenced in collaboration with The Junction Community Centre in Ottoway!
OUR NEWEST PARTNERSHIP - VERY EXCITING!!!! Day 1 and the connections were there! Well done!
The Topsoil Garden Project started at the Junction today - led by Laura (Registered Mental Health Nurse and avid gardener) and Lilly (Head Gardener and Program Officer).
Their initiative is designed to deliver community-based, nature-centric wellness services, supporting the needs of people experiencing marginalisation, mental ill-health or psychosocial disability, largely through the process of a gardening and therapeutic horticulture program.
Laura and Lilly aim to provide an opportunity for participants to learn about gardening whilst also developing tools and techniques for improving overall wellbeing; plus includes culturally affirming food production, gardening literacy, facilitation of community events, connection with the broader green community and enhancing local diversity through a varied program.
Our participants profile is:
· aged 18-64 years
· predominantly from CaLD or new and emerging communities
· have experience of personal or social barriers which contribute to loss of connection with community
· are looking for a community-based solution to addressing personal challenges (i.e. mental ill-health, social disconnection, low self-esteem etc.)
AND
are interested in:
· exploring and expanding their talents and developing new skills
· learning, personal growth & development
· being part of a dynamic wellbeing community & working with others
· making a positive environmental impact.
