February 11 marks the UN’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day that also honours the legacy of Marie Curie, whose groundbreaking work laid foundations for modern medical imaging. In radiology, this day recognises the vital contributions of women across the profession, from sonographers, radiographers, nuclear medicine technicians and radiologists, who play a critical role in advancing diagnostic imaging and patient care.

It also shines a light on the continued need to improve gender representation and equity within imaging and broader STEM fields. By celebrating achievements, challenging stereotypes and supporting equal access to education and career pathways, International Day of Women and Girls in Science helps inspire the next generation of women to pursue careers in radiology and medical science, strengthening the future of healthcare worldwide.

Today marks the International Day of Radiology, celebrating Wilhelm Röntgen’s discovery of x-rays back in 1895 and the incredible impact medical imaging has had on healthcare ever since.

💗 Regular breast self-exams, clinical examinations, and breast imaging are key to the early detection of breast cancer.

Everyday moments — like showering, getting dressed or applying lotion are opportunities to check how your breasts normally look and feel. Remember to include your whole breast area, armpits and up to your collarbone.

If you notice a new lump, thickening, or any change in shape, size, skin or ni**le appearance, see your GP without delay.

💗 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At South East Radiology, we are committed to supporting patients, families, and communities impacted by breast cancer.

Our teams provide breast imaging services across many of our clinics, assisting with early detection, diagnosis, and ongoing care. This cause is close to our hearts, and throughout the month we’ll be decorating clinics, and joining ‘Wear It Pink Day’ to raise awareness and funds.
