I'll start Monday...

Research suggests that it takes anywhere from as little as two weeks to form a new habit AND only 66 days to turn a new habit into an automatic behaviour!!!

Apply this to exercise... The start line is always the most daunting!
The first session you feel pretty crap, your muscles hurt the next day A LOT, and during the whole session, you keep telling yourself how unfit you feel!!
Come back for the next session, it already feels a little easier, your muscles are definitely not as sore as they were after the first, AND the endorphin release has actually kicked in.

You have now committed to two sessions a week, you've started eating better and drinking less because you're loving the health kick you're on and three months down the track, you're actually seeing results and its become a part of your must-do weekly routine!
How great does that feel!!!!!!!!!!

I know it takes a bit to get started, but just think how great you will feel when it becomes an automatic behaviour!!!!

WHAT IS A PROLAPSE AND DO I HAVE ONE?

This one is always a tricky one, and a lot of women feel too embarrassed or ashamed to speak up, feeling very alone and isolated while they suffer in silence.
I have had clients in the past that have kept quiet for a really long time about symptoms they may be feeling (even after i have asked them directly), thinking that those symptoms are just a way of life for them!
Put simply... A prolapse is when one of the pelvic organs sags, bulges or protrudes into the va**na.
There are many different degrees of severity and all are treated case by case and if seen to early can avoid surgery down the track. The old research said after surgery women would never be able to lift weights again, but that is absolutely not the case!
When seen to by the right team of professionals, life as you knew it can be closely achieved!
If you are suffering with ANY of these symptoms, please see a women's health physio to get an internal exam.
* light bladder leakage when coughing, sneezing or running
* heaviness or bulging in the va**na
* pain during s*x
* an inability to hold in a tampon
If you have any of these symptoms, it absolutely does not mean that you have a prolapse, it may just be a weak pelvic floor, but why not cover all basis now and work with what we have in the safest way possible?

It's never too late to start looking after your pelvic floor even if you think you may have a prolapse. There are many different options and paths to take and you are definitely not destined for a life wetting yourself or wearing pads!

The Importance of Cooling Down

We understand that many of you lead busy lives, and it's tempting to dash out the door as soon as your session ends. However, skipping the cool-down phase can have significant impacts on your body. Just as warming up prepares your muscles and joints for exercise, cooling down helps them recover.

Why Cooling Down Matters:

Reduces Muscle Soreness: Gradually decreasing your heart rate and stretching your muscles can prevent stiffness and soreness.

Confused by all the nutrition craziness out there???
What should I be eating?

Seriously.... every single article you read or post you come across will have a different way you "should" be eating!!!!
It doesn't need to be so complex, and food should be ENJOYABLE, not FEARED!!!!

People create so many rules in their heads regarding what they "can and can't have", then beat themselves up if they "fail".

Strength Training for Women.

The benefits of resistance training are very clear. We know it supports the maintenance of healthy muscles and joints, improves cardiorespiratory function, helps with mental health and cognition, and keeps us feeling younger longer.

As women age, our hormones and muscle composition start to decline. Women naturally have less muscle mass to begin with, but as our hormone production slows, as does our ability to maintain our muscles. To counter this, we need to focus on building strong, resilient muscles, and we do this by lifting heavy weights.

Strength involves a neuromuscular connection. By placing that stress on our body (AKA heavy weight), our nervous system fires up to adapt to this load. This allows you to move easier, longer. It also boosts your neural pathways, making improvements in cognition.

Another change women experience as they age, is their bone density declines. Approx 80 percent of those living with diagnosed osteoporosis are women. Adding in resistance and strength training has been shown to significantly slow the progression of bone density loss by stimulating the production of bone-building cells.

Yet another benefit to strength training is how it helps reduce the risk of developing heart disease. In a comparison study of individuals who incorporated strength training into their weekly exercise routine, to those who only performed aerobic exercise, showed a risk reduction of 40-70 percent of developing a heart related condition. Your heart is a muscle, after all!

The takeaway here is that your body needs to be challenged to function optimally. This means adding resistance training to your regime, and more importantly, strength training. At the end of the day, if our goal is to be as independent as possible for as long as possible, we need strong muscles to do that. “You want to be the oldest person in the gym, not the youngest person".
