Last week, we recognised the women who support life across our organisation. This week, we want to pause on something deeper. The reason many of them choose this work in the first place.
In aged care, the work is often practical and constant. Medications, meals, cleaning, administration, paperwork, care plans and conversations with families. Yet beneath all of that sits something much more personal. A deep sense of purpose that brings people back each day.
Many of the women in our organisation carry a strong “why”.
- A belief that caring for others matters.
- A commitment to making someone’s day feel lighter.
- A quiet determination to show up with kindness, even on the hardest days.
During our morning tea we were grateful to welcome Ashton Hurn MP, Leader of the Opposition in South Australia, who joined us in conversation with our Board Chair Helen O’Brien.
The discussion explored what leadership and giving look like in real life. The parts people see, and the parts they often do not. Time, energy, presence, responsibility and the way women continue to support families, workplaces and communities while carrying so much themselves.
What stood out most was how familiar that conversation felt to the women in our own organisation.
Because the leadership we see every day at Barossa Village is not always loud or visible. It is often found in the quiet moments. The nurse who notices when something has changed. The carer who sits a little longer with someone who needs company. The hospitality team member who remembers how someone likes their tea.
These moments come from something deeper than a job description. They come from values, from heart, and from a belief that people deserve to feel seen and cared for.
To the women who make that possible across Barossa Village, thank you. Your work carries meaning far beyond what can be measured.
