Let’s talk home practice! ⚡️🧐

Parents are the most important people in a child’s life, and you are pivotal in ensuring that the skills and gains made in therapy are generalized into your child’s everyday life!

Just 10 minutes of practice a day amounts 70 minutes per week of additional therapy! 🤩

Home practice builds the bridge between what happens in the therapy room to everyday life! 🧩

Ideas of quick easy home practice:
- Practice in the car 🚗
- Use quick games like pop the pig or pop up pirate to make home practice fun & engaging! 🐷
- Picture scavenger hunt 🏞
- Hide & seek 🙈

We are on the hunt for two more team members!! The Speech Studio is looking for an Occupational Therapist and Speech Pathologist to join the clinic! 🗯🧩

For this role we are seeking an Occupational Therapist and Speech Pathologist with a passion and enthusiasm to develop strong assessment, clinical reasoning and treatment skills and to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

To apply you must have:
- WWC check
- Drivers license
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology / Occupational Therapy

The positions include:
- Above award wages
- Support from specialists in different areas e.g AAC, feeding etc.
- A pediatric caseload, with the opportunity to work with adults if desired
- Professional development budget
- Flexible working hours
- Regular supervision which provides mentoring, guidance and support

New grads also encouraged to apply. Part-time or full-time options available, located in Nyngan, with travel to surrounding towns if desired 🚗🗯

This is feeding therapy 🤗🍓🍒

My biggest tip for fussy eaters or kids with sensory aversions/difficulties is to PLAY WITH FOOD 🍌🍎🍉. It offers an opportunity for kids to explore and learn about food, without any pressure to “eat” or “try” the foods. Children learn through looking, touching, smelling and squishing.

Sometimes we seem to believe that teaching our kids colours, numbers, letters and shapes is the most important thing.

These skills are important, but they actually come naturally for a lot of children when they are developmentally ready. And sometimes, we push little ones WAY too early!

Skills learnt through talking, reading and playing are so much more important early on! We need to focus more on words like the ones listed on the right so we can teach our kids to communicate with others and get their needs met 🌈🧩🪁
