Structural Integration-Remedial Massage-Long-Term Results-O'Connor/Fremantle Area Hello there,

I'm Lewis, a Remedial Massage Therapist and I specialise in Anatomy Trains Structural Integration. I help treat postural and movement patterns and restore overall body awareness and connection, this helps people feel and move at their best. Structural Integration (SI) is like Remedial Massage in that is is a form of bodywork but the treatment approach and techniques are very different. SI treats posture, movement restrictions, chronic pain and general aches and pain with very specific soft-tissue techniques. Assessments focus on posture, gait (how you walk) and specific movements, this helps identify any areas that may be restricted, compressed or affecting your overall function. Sessions involve your participation, moving along with a technique, this can help move out of old movement patterns and into new ones! Clients often report lasting relief, feeling taller, lighter and more ease in their body after their session. I have been been practicing bodywork since 2018. I became a bodyworker after experiencing life-long relief from chronic lower back pain through SI. After my experience I knew that I wanted to specialise in SI so I could help people find relief, just as I did. I'm very passionate about helping people with chronic pain, old persistent injuries, everyday aches and pains, as well as pain post surgery (6 months or more). One of the problems I find with clients who have chronic pain is that they continually receive treatment on the area of pain again and again, this has merit, especially in the more acute phase of treatment but it's important to remember the body is a connected system. Sometimes the source of pain may actually be very far away from the site of pain. SI is great in these cases as it looks at the whole person. Surgery is another, often the body has to compensate while an area is recovering. For some, these compensations remain after they have recovered and they experience alternated movement, pain at the surgery site or far away from the site. SI is hugely beneficial for those post surgery (generally after 6 months) as it may help restore movement and posture or provide long-term relief. I believe that everyone should experience relief from pain, movement restrictions and poor postural patterns. Each session is tailored to how your body is moving on the day.

I take the time to understand what’s going on before working hands-on.

The goal is to help you feel more comfortable and move more easily.

Are you feeling a constant pressure at the back of your head?

When I do, I use 2 SOFT prickle balls and let them sink into the back of my head.

This allows the muscles to relax.

I will also nod my head and turn left to right, this really helps to alleviate the pressure.

Let me know how you go?

It Starts With Your Feet - yet often missed in treatment!

I prioritise working with the feet — because of the important role they play in balance and movement.

Your feet are your foundation. They’re constantly providing feedback to your body about where you are in space and how to stay stable.

As we get older, this awareness (called proprioception) can become less responsive, which can affect balance and confidence in movement.

By working with the feet through remedial massage, we can:

• improve awareness and connection
• support better balance
• help movement feel more stable and comfortable

For many active retirees, this becomes an important part of staying mobile and confident in everyday life.

This is one of my favourite ways to combine self-massage with movement.

Using a peanut roller (two balls joined together), you can gently work along the muscles either side of your spine and you have the added benefit of moving through a squat.

This works by:

• helps release tension through the back
• encourages the spine to move more freely
• combines massage + movement for better results

As you lower into the squat, the pressure from the roller can help the muscles relax while your body moves naturally.

It’s a simple way to support your body if you’ve been feeling a bit stiff through your back.

Start slowly and move within a comfortable range — it should feel like a gentle release, not pain.

If you’d like help working through areas like this more effectively, I can guide you through it during a session.

Most people think about posture when standing or sitting.
But posture really shows up when we move.

Walking is one of the most revealing movements because walking is posture in motion.

Each step shows how:

• your weight transfers through your feet (or where it doesn't)
• your hips moves (or how they don't)
• your spine and upper body adapt (or don't adapt)

Small compensations caused from injury, surgery, repetitive strain or poor posture can be repeated into each step, everyday...

Improving how the body moves in walking is actually quite simple with hands on structural bodywork and movement guidance.

Often, small changes in how the body moves during walking can make movement feel noticeably lighter and easier.

That’s why assessing walking is such an important part of the work I do.

After six years working in aged care, I discovered how much I love helping people one-on-one and how important touch is, that's why I am now a remedial massage therapist. I’m passionate about supporting active retirees to move comfortably, reduce stiffness, and maintain independence 😃
