Massage is the art of paying attention, and a communication between my body and yours that tells you that it is safe to relax, let go, and feel whatever is present in the moment. It is a team effort. I am asking you to deeply listen and pay attention to your body, so that I can also deeply listen and pay attention to your body so that we can create positive change together.
Sometimes what is present is incredibly uncomfortable and obvious and other times it is more subtle and unexpected. Yes, I am mapping the body, finding the tight spots, working them out. I am also asking you to breathe, breathing with you, holding the areas of tension until they realise it is safe to relax. Under my hands, it feels like cold hard butter becoming warm and soft, or sandpaper becoming smooth. What you feel is tension and discomfort leaving your body. I will pay attention to these areas with you, until they relax.
Some feedback from a couple of my clients this week,
"That was a tough session - but today my hip is feeling better than it has in a year, thank you. I didn't know this level of movement was possible"
"Kia I had no idea how much emotion I could move through in an hour. That was really profound, I have not experienced that level of safety before in my life. Thank you".
Massage, to a point, is sustained attention and co-regulation. Yes, the physical and mental benefits are well documented, and I will speak about them in other posts. But for now, I just want to say - we live in such a fast paced (crazy) world, and we often forget to stop and pay attention to ourselves, despite the warning signs, and then we "just soldier on" through the discomfort which is what causes dysfunction, tension, stress, physical pain.
If you feel perhaps it's time to stop and take a breath, and pay attention to what is happening for you in your body, click on my link in my bio and book a massage with me. Let's see what positive change we can create in your body together.
