Destination Accessible Geelong & The Bellarine's Multi Award Winning Disability Accommodation and Support Services The same year saw King Tide Townhouse win Best Luxury Home.

We strive to promote tourist attractions on The Bellarine that offer mobility accessibility, and to provide motivation and tools to the tourism industry to create inclusive travel opportunities. This page has been created in conjuction with our main business page

“Our vision is to create a region that is inclusive of all people, to inspire other tourism operators to think about their own businesses around accessible travel, and to encourage everyone to embrace sustainable change.” Christine Smith, Manager. Founded in 2007, Great Ocean Stays is a holiday rental and property management service offering boutique accommodation on the Bellarine Peninsular. Long before Airbnb, we advertised ocean-side accommodation through an easy to view online booking website, whatever the specialist needs of the prospective guest. We were one of the first to introduce pet friendly rentals during a period when they were almost unheard of. Within 18 months we won a national award through a popular tourism website for Best National Pet Friendly Holiday Home. We continue to lead and inspire tourism operators and property owners in the region to exceed the expectations of the traveller with service excellence. As part of our commitment to provide inclusive travel and service, we have purpose built a complex of accessible holiday homes in the heart of Ocean Grove. Our build philosophy was to present adaptable homes that respond effectively to the needs of all by providing beautiful accessible spaces. Completed in 2015, these are a welcome addition to the region and a step forward in providing a focus on The Bellarine Peninsular as being “Accessible For All”. We look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula!

Staying Safe Online and Offline ‼️

Sometimes harmful digital behaviour can feel overwhelming. Taking small, intentional steps can help you feel safer and more supported.

Practical safety actions ⁉️
You may choose to save or screenshot harmful messages if it feels safe, making sure dates and times are visible.

Keep notes about what’s happening only if you feel safe and leave them in a secure place or with a trusted friend.

Ideas for Protection⁉️
Consider using encrypted cloud services or external drives kept in a safe place.

Hide or disguise apps/folders used for storing information—for example, move them to a less obvious folder or give them a neutral name.

Share what’s happening with a trusted person so they can offer support and help you feel less alone.

REMEMBER: Planning your next steps with a support service can make this process safer and less stressful. You don’t have to manage this on your own, support is available.

How can I know if someone is experiencing technology-facilitated abuse (TFA)?

The warning signs for TFA are similar to other forms of coercive control, but to help make it easier we have created a list of things to look out for..

🚩 They are receiving a large volume of text messages or calls while out and may abruptly leave.
🚩They are fearful that the person using violence is aware of their or their children’s location.
🚩The person using violence is showing up unexpectedly at locations where the person experiencing violence is present.
🚩They have restricted access to technology or are having to share their device with the person using violence.
🚩The person using violence may reference reading private messages indicating they have been monitoring online activity.

The 1️⃣, 2️⃣, 3️⃣ of helping someone experiencing technology-facilitated abuse 📲 💻 ‼️

Providing support to someone who is experiencing digital abuse can help save lives. What can we do to help?

1️⃣ Firstly, we can provide access to a safe device , which may be a device of your own that they can use safely and away from the person using violence.

2️⃣ Secondly, encourage your loved one to seek support, if they can. There are many professional services available to help increase their safety. So how can we do this?
- If you or someone you know is in immediate risk of harm call the police on 000
- If the person you are worried about lives with an abusive partner or has an abusive ex partner, encourage them to reach out to 1800RESPECT or Safe Steps, for free counselling and support services and let them know whether the device is safe.
- If you are worried about their mental health encourage them to contact Lifeline when it is safe to do so.

3️⃣ Lastly, be careful what you post! Avoid posting about the person or their children. If you do, avoid using locations as it may make it easier for the person using violence to track them. Encourage them to do the same.

⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️

In this The Guardian article, the journalist explores the underworld of Roblox- a popular game with more than 100 million active daily users.

Almost half of these players are children under 13, and in Australia, children who use this site play for an average of 137 minutes per a day.

“In my short time there my avatar is cyberbullied, aggressively killed, sexually assaulted and shat on – all with parental control settings in place.”

Violence and Abuse has no place in games our children play.

Let’s talk about women in the spotlight 🌟

Research shows that women with a public platform experience increasing rates of digital abuse, in comparison to men with similar public profiles.

An Australian government survey found that 1 in 3 women had experienced online abuse in a work context, and 1 in 4 women were hesitant to move into a role that required a public media presence.

Most of the abuse occurred on social media and included harassment, doxing and trolling.

Destination Accessible has put together information and stories about women in the public eye. Click through to see what women in the spotlight have said about their experiences of online abuse…

Remember to access support where possible to ensure your safety, and always use a “safe device” when searching for help and planning your next move.

A safe device means you can make calls, send messages and go online without being monitored. This may be a device of your own, a trusted person or a community device such as a library computer.

If you or someone you know is at immediate risk of harm, call the police on 000
