My name is Elma Koster a qualified (HICAT) Holistic Integrated Creative Arts Therapist. My journey started a long time ago with a passion for art combined with a passion for people’s need to heal mentally, physically and emotionally. I found a way to fulfil this desire and fulfil a purpose when I discovered HICAT. I hope I can take you on a journey of mindfulness, self awareness, anxiety relief and relief of depression in a warm, safe and caring environment.

‘Choose Joy’
. is a powerful mindset and lifestyle philosophy that emphasizes making a conscious decision to find happiness and contentment, even amidst life's challenges, by focusing on gratitude, perspective, and intentional daily actions, rather than waiting for circumstances to be perfect. Waiting could mean you will never have it.

It looks lovely on a quote, people profess it like it’s a box to tick but it is not always possible or easy. Circumstances can make it difficult to see what goodness happens around us.

How do you find joy in the midst of chaos? Maybe it's about taking a step back, breathing deeply, and noticing the little things that bring us happiness. Maybe it's about being present in the moment, letting go of our worries and fears, and allowing ourselves to feel the joy that's already there, waiting to be tapped into.

Whatever it is, I think we're all searching for that feeling of joy, that sense of lightness and freedom that makes life feel more meaningful and fulfilling. And when we find it, we should hold onto it tight, savoring every moment of it, because joy is a gift worth cherishing.

ART CAN REDUCE STRESS TO IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH.

The act of creating art—be it painting, drawing, or sculpting—requires concentration and intention, which naturally quiets the mind and improves our mindfulness of everything around us.

Creating something has a unique ability to anchor us in the present moment, a powerful tool for enhancing mindfulness. When we immerse ourselves in creating (or observing) art, we are drawn away from the chaos of daily life and into a state where time seems to stand still.

Art provides a unique outlet for emotions that are often hard to articulate. Whether it is joy, sadness, anger, or confusion, putting your feelings into a creative project can be incredibly cathartic. I know it has helped me process things time and time again, which is why I am such an advocate for exploring the connection between art and mental health.

The repetitive motions of drawing, painting, or playing an instrument can have a soothing effect on the mind. The next time you feel overwhelmed, pick up a pen or pencil and start doodling; this rhythmic process lowers cortisol levels and reduces stress.

I have a few open spaces for once off sessions to take time out and experience what we have discussed in this post.
