🧠 When behaviour changes in dementia… it’s usually trying to tell you something

One of the hardest parts of dementia care is behaviour changes.
• Agitation
• Withdrawal
• Refusing help
• Difficulty completing tasks

But here’s a powerful shift:

👉 Behaviour is often communicating a need.

Care of People with Dementia in their Environments (COPE) helps carers learn how to:
• Understand what might be driving the behaviour
• Adjust the environment or routine
• Respond in ways that reduce distress

And often…

✨ Small changes make a big difference

• Less stress for you
• More comfort and dignity for them

This is the kind of support carers wish they had earlier.

COPE isn’t just information—it’s practical, guided support.

Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Assessment
We look at what’s really happening:
• daily routines
• home environment
• challenges you're facing

We also explore possible hidden causes of behaviour changes like:
👉 pain, sleep, illness, medications

2️⃣ Intervention

You get tailored strategies like:
• simplifying daily tasks
• adjusting the home setup
• improving communication
• reducing stress triggers
No more guessing what might help.

3️⃣ Future Planning
Because dementia changes over time—we help you prepare for what’s ahead.

👉 So you feel more confident, not constantly reacting.

Care of People with Dementia in their Environments (COPE) is designed for real people in real homes.

People like you!

It supports those living with dementia who:

• Live at home
• Are experiencing changes in behaviour or daily tasks

But just as importantly - it supports the carer.

Because most carers are:
• Figuring things out as they go
• Feeling emotionally and physically stretched
• Unsure how to respond to changes

You might be:
•A partner
•An adult child
•A friend or neighbour

COPE works with both of you - together.

Not just advice - but practical, tailored support that actually fits your home and your situation.

Because when the carer is supported, everything feels more manageable.

Caring for someone with dementia can be deeply meaningful. But it can also feel overwhelming, exhausting, and isolating.

We often hear:

If this is you—you’re not alone.

Dementia changes memory, behaviour, and daily abilities. But here’s what many carers aren’t told:

👉 There are ways to make this easier.

Our team has trained in the COPE program—designed to support both the person living with dementia and the carer.

Over the next few posts, we’ll show you practical ways to feel more confident at home.

Because you shouldn’t have to figure this out on your own.

After Christmas, many adult children head home with a quiet feeling they can’t quite shake.

Something felt different this year.

Maybe you noticed changes in mobility, memory, routines — or how much you were quietly helping without realising it.

That feeling is worth listening to.
Most families don’t need to rush into big decisions — they just need clearer information and a plan.

If you’re wondering what you saw and what to do next, I’ve created a free guide and an upcoming course to help families support ageing parents safely and confidently at home. 💛🏡

Christmas with an ageing parent can be incredibly special. 💛

It’s often a time to slow down, share stories, look through old photos, laugh about old Christmases, and connect in ways that busy life doesn’t always allow.

Sometimes it’s the quiet moments — sitting together, listening, reminiscing — that become the most meaningful.

If you’re spending Christmas with an older parent today, lean into those moments.
Ask about their favourite Christmas, family traditions, or stories you’ve heard a hundred times but still love.

And if the day also brings up thoughts about how they’re coping at home, that’s okay too.

Support can be planned gently and early.
