What a brilliant song- demonstrating self compassion and the skill of “sitting with” hard emotions…. We love this!

The APS supports Allied Health Professions Australia in calling for the expansion of the Commonwealth Prac Payment to include all allied health students.

A petition launched today by Independent MP Dr Helen Haines and Senator David Pocock, alongside Allied Health Professions Australia, calls for equitable placement support across health disciplines.

Allied health students – including psychology students – complete extensive mandatory unpaid placements, often at significant personal cost. Expanding placement support will reduce placement poverty, provide equitable access to placement support, and contribute to the diversity of Australian psychologists entering the workforce.

Equitable access to placement support must be a national priority.

If you want to help end placement poverty for allied health and medicine students, sign the petition below. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/expand-prac-payments-to-allied-health-and-medical-students?source=direct_link&

🌱 Proud moment for Health in Mind 🌱

We’re excited to celebrate our involvement in CoreConnect, an innovative, collaborative training program supporting provisional psychologists in regional NSW — and the publication of its evaluation in the Australian Journal of Rural Health.

The research highlights how the model of shared training of provisional psychologists between joint organisations in the CoreConnect program- supports provisional psychologists to grow in confidence and competence, feel less isolated, build strong professional networks, and prepare for the National Psychology Exam — while also helping rural services attract, train and retain their workforce. A true win for regional mental health 💚

A special shout-out to the research team Nicole Sudmalis, Matt Thomas, and Zora Todoroska (Marathon Health) and the team at Whole Child Specialists, whose work showcases the power of collaboration in strengthening the rural psychology workforce. We are especially proud of Nicole Sudmalis, one of our own Health in Mind team members, for her leadership and contribution to this important research 👏

This work reinforces what we value deeply at Health in Mind: investing in people, learning together, and building sustainable pathways for psychologists to thrive in regional communities.

As a member of the EMDR Special Interest Group of the APS - we am excited to be sharing this opportunity to learn with Sarah Schubert in a 1.5 hour webinar on 19th November (6pm - 7:30pm AEST).

Join Sarah for a reflective exploration of how therapeutic work with children healing from trauma can enhance your clinical work with adults. In child therapy, we witness the innate healing wisdom of the child — who can only heal within the coregulation of safe, trusting relationships and connection to self-identity. Trauma therapy with children requires working flexibly, creatively, somatically with what emerges; conceptualisation requires hearing the implicit, preverbal trauma narratives through a felt sense of our own nervous system; and reprocessing implicit and explicit memory of the mind and body through the language of fun, movement, art and play.

Similarly, as adults, our trauma stories often lie beneath conscious awareness, held in the body, and beyond words. Adults too carry stories of life experiences that leave them stuck in protective, defensive states, disconnected from themselves, and with a fractured sense of identity that may make healing feel impossible. This presentation invites you to reflect on the wisdom our young clients offer—reminding us that healing is always innately possible when the therapeutic space is safe, attuned, creatively, and compassionately held.

This webinar is suitable for those trained and not trained in EMDR.
Sarah Schubert is a clinical psychologist who specialises in the treatment of trauma and the comorbidities this brings across the lifespan. Sarah is published in the area of EMDR and trauma therapy, and she has contributed to the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS, 2020) international guidelines on PTSD.
Tickets are available from $15 -$70.

A number of our team are walking in the One Foot Forward challenge during the month of October - Mental Health Month.
Tomorrow (10th October) is World Mental Health Day.
This World Mental Health Day, it's time to remind everyone to continue the conversation around mental health in your workplace, in your families, and with your mates.

1 in 5 Australians experience a mental illness each year, and 50% of people will not seek professional help.

These statistics are just not OK! Lets all take the courageous steps to reach out to each other, stand together in solidarity, and start talking about mental health.

To donate to our team - go to this webpage! Together, we can make a difference.

We need to show people living with mental illness that they're not alone and help them access the support they need.

All donations to our One Foot Forward fundraising pages will be DOUBLED TOMORROW thanks to our corporate partner, Safety Mate! 🎉

Up to the total value of $150,000 from 8am (AEDT) tomorrow - Friday 10 October.

Double donations means double the impact!

Our incredible community has already raised $2,890,233 to help put ground-breaking new mental health treatment, education and digital services into the hands of the people who need them most.

Let's keep this amazing momentum going, there couldn’t be a better time than World Mental Health Day tomorrow to take action. 🧡

Sadly, 1 in 5 people experience a mental illness each year and 50% of people living with mental illness will not seek professional help. The team at Health in Mind Orange want to rally against these numbers - to encourage people to stand together, support each other, and promote mental health awareness.

The Black Dog Institute fundraiser - One Foot Forward starts today and Health in Mind Orange has signed up. This October is Mental Health Month, and we will be walking in solidarity to support Australians impacted by mental illness and su***de.
