OAMS continues the campaign in 2026!

Launched in 2024, the campaign promotes and supports the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples—particularly youth— on 26 January, today. We acknowledge that 26 January is a complex day, often evoking deep emotions and reflections. Showing our support for one another encourages strengths-based conversations about what OAMIES and our community can engage in to care for themselves and others around this time, with a focus on connection, strength, and resilience.

OAMIES Meg, Dietitian and Ashley, Allied Health Assistant Trainee, in partnership with our Closing the Gap team Adam, Mel and Renae, attended NASCA at Canobolas High School last term to share cooking tips and nutrition information with students in Years 7–9. The cooking program ran once a fortnight over three sessions, focusing on budget-friendly, easy-to-make recipes. Together we made chicken fried rice, bread-based quiches, and a fan-favourite sausage rolls! The team received great feedback and we have provided you with all the recipes for more cooking at home.

We also enjoyed fun and interactive activities including food bingo, learning about food groups, and a yarning circle. The girls were also awarded their OAMS chef's apron as part of the program's final week of cooking.

We used other recipes found online as inspiration for ours and all copyright belongs to the original owners.
