A free Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine is available for eligible people across the Loddon Mallee region, and a Medicare card is not required. JE is rare but can cause serious illness including brain infection. If you live or work in a high-risk area, live or work on a property with pigs, or work in mosquito surveillance, you may be eligible. Booster doses are also now recommended for those who have already been vaccinated and remain eligible.
Speak to your GP or local immunisation provider to check your eligibility.

Replace water in bird baths and water features at least once a week, keep gutters clear and make sure water tanks are sealed and fitted with mosquito-proof screens.
