Are you thinking of joining us for the annual Ashtanga Intensive in January? ⚡️

Every year, we have yogis from all traditions and from near and far join us for this incredible week.
The power of commitment and the transformation of synergy deepen and reconnect you to your practice, taking it to the next level. 🧘

Get the most out of your experience with these tips:

The time to start preparing is NOW. Make sure you are practising consistently 3x a week or more. Try to attend at least one Led Ashtanga class per week - especially the Thursday 6am where Phyo offers a focus technique each class, or Sunday 4pm Led.

If you are not practicing at Level 2 at least once a week, try to work your way up to it with guidance by your teachers.

Cultivate the habits of rising and sleeping earlier. Attend some of the early morning classes. ☀️

If you have any niggling injuries, address them now. Do extra exercises to build strength around a weakened area. Book a private with one of the teachers to address any technique issues that could place strain on your body.

Keep your eye out for our Ashtanga Intensive Prep workshop. We will share techniques and insights to help you get the most out of the Intensive, and of your practice in general.

No matter what, the container of committing to 5 early practice sessions with a focused community will turn up the heat - but with these tips it can be an alchemy rather than a strain. ✨

Dear students, we are no stranger to a thunderstorm in SEQ, and it looks like we are going to experience some heavy weather later today. The 10.30am class is still running as usual, and we’ll be keeping an eye on things to ensure you get home safely before we see any wild conditions! See you on the mat soon 🙏💛

Enter the retreat portal and come through transformed… 🌀🌱🌳

Join us at Springbrook this December for yoga, meditation, community and connection. Two days on retreat can have the same rejuvenating effects as a full week of time off… Perfect timing before silly season obligations kick off. And this amazing soaking rain we’re having right now will be creating the most lush natural environment for us to enjoy while we’re on the mountain, including access to our own private waterfall! 🌿🐸🦜

We’ve extended the Early Bird price, so get in touch with the office on 5534 2883 or yoga88@goldcoastyogacentre.com for all the details… Friday 5th to Sunday 7th December 💚🙏✨

Why Mysore?

Mysore is the name traditionally given to the style of class where the students practice independently, following the sequence they are up to in the Ashtanga tradition and receiving one on one guidance with the teacher (within a group context). It is named Mysore after the city that Pattabhi Jois established the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute, and where he taught for many years.

In other traditions, it is simply called Self Practice.

In a Self Practice/Mysore session, you practice independently - working on whatever sequence you are currently practicing and studying.
The teacher will move from student to student, adjusting and giving tips and guidance for each individual practice as they are able.

The main benefits to Mysore/Self Practice include:

Working at your own pace
Working on the postures and sequencing most relevant to you
Scope for advanced students to go further than the general classes
Practice development

You also still gain the benefits of inspiration and synergy that you get in a regular led class!

It is not recommended for complete Beginners. You do get the most out of it if you are able to continue the flow of your practice when the teacher is attending to other students - this means having some experience, knowledge and practice behind you. But you do not have to be super advanced. Anyone who attends will gain insights into their unique practice and progress it further.

The class time is longer as people arrive and leave within that window of time in their own time (you might only stay and hour and a half) - although we do recommend joining in the commencement chant together if possible, which helps to create that invisible connection that gives a sense of community, and helps synergistically raise each other up.

Please chat with your teachers and/or the office if you are interested.
Times are currently Tuesday 6-9am, Friday 10am -12.30pm

Our teacher Mark Togni has been inspired by the Ashtanga traditions as his main asana practice path, but has roots in the teachings of the Iyengar and Zen traditions, as well as influences of Satyananda, and the guidance of his beloved Papaji.

We do love a bolster here at the GCYC, and some of our absolute favourites are the Divine Goddess Round Lotus Yoga Bolsters 🪷

Highly versatile, sustainably made and lightweight, these bolsters are great to use when you have limitations in the joints, need to support your back, open your chest and heart gently, or just love restorative practice 💗

They are also beautiful! (which is a Sattvic quality promoting harmony and ease) 🌸

We have a fresh supply at the studio in just about every colour of the rainbow. If you’re curious about how a bolster would benefit your practice, please ask one of our teachers for some tips and guidance 🙏❤️🧡💛💚🤎💜🤍
