So this write up is about how dogs at play can hurt themselves badly as they just dont tend to watch whats around them!!!

Greta my Labradoodle who is rising 6yrs old this year at the age of 4 was running around and around a metal fence I had and her younger brother was having a ball chasing her.

As she went round the corner she miscued the cut in and slammed her hip/pelvis area so hard she actually fractured it. Not enough to require anything like surgery but it definitely changed her being.

She was super sore and had therapy sessions from me most days to help heal and also relieve pain.

We did physio to keep her range of movement but kept her comfortable whilst doing it.

Once healed she still had good and bad days so we tried 4cyte which for her was a game changer for her!!

We also use equi streamz for dogs which also gives her relief and she still has regular therapy sessions but you honestly wouldnt know now that she had such a big accident!!!

Utilising massage and other modalities, plus the oral meds and equi streamz was definitely something she required and will continue to require for her life time.

Injuries can be lessened to a degree with the proper intervention from us via different avenues. Obviously vet is first and formost then you can look at the long term picture and get therapy etc.

Enjoy your furkids

HIP DYSPLASIA

This is a post, so more awareness is brought forward about this insidious disease!!!!

So, I want to do a little post about hip dysplasia in dogs.

Most of you have seen or met my beautiful little pocket rocket Betty, the French bulldog.

She was purchased from a registered breeder who did all the genetic tests, etc, but somehow still was born with severe hip dysplasia that wasn't evident until about 18 weeks old.

Unfortunately, even with cleared parents, it can be background genetics that can play havoc, and some breeds are definitely more prone to this disease.

I had Betty desexed and xrayed to see how bad her hips were, and unfortunately, we were sent to a wonderful surgeon in Canberra who told me there are 3 levels of dysplasia

Mild

Moderate

Severe

Betty, unfortunately, is (3) severe, and the only way to completely fix it is massive hip replacement surgery on both hips!!

I thought I had all bases covered when hand picking my breeder with past litters being clear, etc. This time, they did use an outside dog that they hadn't previously, which I'd say has come into play.

Betty has daily treatment from myself she is also highly active so well muscled, which is in her favour, plus she is small.

There are plenty of things you can do treatment and exercise wise.
PS. Yes, the breeder is fully aware of Bettys condition.

CAUDAL HEEL PAIN

So this can be a very controversial issue in the horse world and is commonly called Navicular.

Jinx, my horse, was a younger fit and healthy boy who loved being out and about.

We had a clinic we went to twice a year and enjoyed it immensely. This one clinic Jinx just wasn't himself, on edge, and wouldn't stand still etc which wasn't him at all.

In the middle of the clinic, we were riding, and all of a sudden, he lay down whilst I was in the saddle!!!

So, it began our long and hard journey to find the issue. He went to an equine vet, and he had thin soles but also Sacro pain, so we did the whole sacro route and started to move on.

He still wasn't right, and we had intermittent lameness. I decided we needed to go and get this completely rectified as it was horrible to watch him struggle at times.

We finally got answers last year, and he actually has Caudal Heel Pain with no bony changes so far but tendon strain, etc. The sacro issues were actually secondary to this!!!

Jinx is on the mend, so to speak and happy as Larry is doing his thing!! We have great professionals on our side who have got us answers and a light at the end of the tunnel!!

Caudal Heel Pain is one thing that sends shivers down all equestrians spines, BUT once you know, surround yourself with knowledgeable professionals to get your horse to the best they can be.
