Some lovely everyday moments from our cooking days πŸ’š

Every Tuesday and Thursday, our cooking groups head to Newton Drakes Supermarkets Supermarket to shop for ingredients. Over time, we’ve gotten to know Dave and Kayla at the checkouts, and they’ve become a familiar part of our routine.

Last week, Kayla surprised us by hand making Christmas cards for both the Tuesday and Thursday cooking groups πŸŽ„

It was a thoughtful gift and a really nice way to wrap up the year. Thanks Dave, Kayla and the whole Drakes crew for always being friendly and welcoming 😊

What another incredible week at Kangaroo Disability Services!! β˜€οΈπŸŽ„

We wrapped up our final Kangaroo Kitchen a what a way to finish. Don’t worry though, our cooking classes are back in January.

In the kitchen, we went all out with a Christmas feast. Roast lamb and chicken with all the trimmings, followed by a fruit cake trifle for dessert. Big festive flavours and lots of smiles.

Wednesday’s treasure hunt took us to the upside down house. It left a few of us feeling a little dizzy, in the best way. Then it was off to Costco to hunt down free tasting samples and ingredients πŸ€ͺπŸ’•πŸ€£

Our Treasure Hunters are still on their adventures on both 24th and 31st. If you would like to learn about joining us please contact us.

It was a fun week, a very hot week, and a perfect way to finish the year.

Merry Christmas everyone πŸŽ„βœ¨

Thursday was a truly special day for Kangaroo Disability Services πŸ’š

Our Kangaroo Kitchen Graduation Ceremony was filled with so much warmth, pride and joy. From our participants and their families to our guests, Chef Michelle and the KDS team, the love in the room was something we will never forget.

Watching our participants stand tall and celebrate everything they have achieved reminded us why Kangaroo Kitchen exists. It is about so much more than cooking. It is about building confidence, creating belonging and believing in what is possible.

We were honoured to share the day with Hon Michelle Lensink MLC, Jill Whittaker OAM Campbelltown Mayor, Campbelltown Councillor Jagdish Lakhani Kanwaldeep Singh, and Scott Kennedy - Liberal for Morialta. Your presence meant so much to our participants, families and team.

We would also like to acknowledge Peter Chapman and Darian Leckie who have been incredible suppoters of the Kangaroo Ktichen.

A heartfelt thank you to Chef Michelle for her passion and care, and to our incredible KDS staff who support our participants every step of the way.

Moments like these stay with you forever. We are so proud.

Today our crew had a great day out exploring Adelaide Zoo on our weekly treasure hunt. They spent the day following clues and learning all sorts of fun facts, from what pandas like to snack on to the names of the lions and even conservation messages about orangutans.

Our treasure hunts are all about having a good time, but they are also a great way to build confidence and learn new skills. Everyone learns differently, and these adventures encourage that. It might be reading signs, asking questions or exploring with curiosity, and learning however suits them best.

We already cannot wait for next week’s adventure. If you or someone you know would like to get involved, feel free to get in touch. We are a registered NDIS provider and always happy to chat.

It has been another busy week at Kangaroo Disability Services filled with good food, fun outings and plenty of laughs.

Tuesday was all about learning new cooking skills at Kangaroo Kitchen with butter chicken skewers on the menu and custard slice to finish.

On Wednesday the Treasure Hunt crew headed to Adelaide Oval with Brenton for a day of exploring and solving clues.

Then on Thursday the Kangaroo Kitchen team were back at it again, rolling up spring rolls, cooking Vietnamese chicken and treating themselves to warm Vietnamese donuts.

There is never a dull moment and we wouldn’t have itanyotherway.

This week in the Kangaroo Kitchen, Brenton picked our Around the World menu and chose an Indian favourite. We cooked butter chicken with naan and rice, plus gulab jamun for dessert. πŸ›βœ¨

Pictured is our trained chef Michelle with Joseph, one of our regular attendees, proudly showing off his lunch.

Each class runs from 9am to 3pm with pick up and drop off included. Participants help choose the menu, head to the supermarket to shop and practise basic budgeting, then return to the kitchen to cook one savoury and one sweet dish together.

It is a fun, confidence building program where everyone learns teamwork, time management and kitchen safety skills.

Judging by the empty plates, Brenton’s menu was a big hit πŸ˜„πŸ½οΈ
