We’re so proud of Nathan, who recently spoke at Ability First AU’s 9th Annual Charity Golf Day.

Nathan shared the story of his journey into employment through Northcott’s Work and Study program in partnership with Ability First Australia, and his experience joining the team at David Jones as a dedicated Logistics Assistant.

He inspired guests including industry leaders like Ability First Australia CEO Andrew Rowley and David Jones CEO Scott Fyfe, showing just how important inclusion, training and ongoing support are for both employees and employers.

Well done, Nathan! Your achievements and willingness to share your story are helping create more inclusive workplaces across our community.

Alvis has been coming along to our Coffs Harbour Life Skills program for 5 years. In that time, he’s made some great friends who he can truly be himself around.

Throughout the week they do everything together from dancing at Zumba, to playing bocce and having barbeque lunches. Having these meaningful connections is incredibly important for both health and happiness.

This year, the theme for World Down Syndrome Day is ‘Together Against Loneliness’. Loneliness is as bad for our health as smoking 15 ci******es a day, and people with Down syndrome are much more likely to face it.

The solution to this is real inclusion.

It’s about having good friendships and relationships. It’s the feeling of being valued and knowing you belong. This is a problem we can solve, and 'Together Against Loneliness' is the call to action.

In the late 1970s, Northcott organised a wide range of activities to ensure children could enjoy fun, social experiences alongside their therapy and education. Holiday programs, camps and outings gave children the chance to explore new places, meet friends and experience the joy of shared activities.

These experiences were made possible by dedicated staff, volunteers and community supporters who gave their time to organise camps, excursions and social activities. These moments created lasting memories and helped children build confidence and friendships.

Today, that same spirit continues through Northcott’s recreation programs, where young people can connect with others, try new experiences and build confidence. From sporting events and concerts to active outings like bowling or swimming, these programs help teens develop friendships, social skills and independence in a fun and supportive environment.

Because sometimes the most important growth happens when young people simply get the chance to have fun together: https://bit.ly/4aBUQUc

“I have seen firsthand how Dynamic Movement Intervention can create meaningful change, even in children with significant movement challenges, in a relatively short period of time.” says Mineka, Northcott Physiotherapist based at Logan in Queensland.

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) helps children build strength, confidence, and independence through supportive, hands‑on therapy.

If you're looking for targeted developmental support, Mineka now has appointment availability at our Slacks Creek centre.

In the late 1970s at Margaret Reid Hospital, children with complex orthopaedic needs received specialised care designed to support their development, independence and wellbeing.

Doctors, therapists and nurses worked closely together to provide treatment tailored to each child. Orthopaedic specialists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists helped children strengthen mobility, develop everyday skills and build confidence for life beyond hospital care.

Children were supported not only medically, but emotionally and socially too. The hospital welcomed parents to stay during their child’s treatment, recognising the importance of family involvement. Play, learning and therapy were all part of daily life.

Today, Northcott continues this legacy through our Allied Health and Clinical Services, providing physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and other specialist supports that help children build skills, increase independence and achieve their goals: https://bit.ly/4sJowq5
